‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Renewed For Season 4 By Hulu

In a surprise to literally no one, Hulu has renewed the multi-award-winning The Handmaid’s Tale for a 4th Season.

The Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning series stars Elisabeth Moss as a handmaid in Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly part of the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birth rate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalist regime that treats fertile women as property of the state.

Season 3, which is currently still airing on Channel 4 in the UK, saw Moss’ June – now newly named Ofjoseph due to her reassignment to Commander Lawrence (Bradley Whitford) – adjusting to her new position. Whilst Emily (Alexis Bledel) escaped with June’s baby into Canada, the resistance to the dystopian regime struggles to strike back against overwhelming odds. The Waterford’s (Joseph Fiennes and Yvonne Strahovski) are determined to get “their” baby back and insist Ofjoseph help make contact. As the Season continues, startling reunions, betrayals, and a journey to the terrifying heart of Gilead force all characters to take a stand.

‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ was the first show to land a Primetime Emmy for Best Series for Hulu, and it went on to pick up 11 in total over the first two seasons. It also landed the Best Drama Series Golden Globe last year, along with handing the Best Actress award to Elisabeth Moss. This year it has 11 more Emmy nominations, the most of any show on the streaming service, so it isn’t any great shock they are keen to keep it around.

The Handmaid’s Tale‘ Season 3 is currently airing on Channel 4 in the UK.
