Starzplay has taken the European distribution rights to Hulu comedy-drama ‘Ramy‘ it has been announced today. The deal covers the UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Austria, Belgium and Luxembourg.
‘Ramy’ stars Ramy Hassan as a first-generation Egyptian-American who is on a spiritual journey in his politically-divided New Jersey neighbourhood. The series brings a new perspective to the screen as it explores the challenges of what it’s like being caught between a Muslim community that thinks life is a moral test and a millennial generation that thinks life has no consequences.
Actor, comedian, and director Ramy Youssef previously filmed a recurring role in the third season of ‘Mr Robot’, and he made his late-night stand-up debut on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’. He started his professional acting career as a series regular on Nick at ‘Nite’s See Dad Run’ opposite Scott Baio, and he was most recently seen in the 20th Century Fox comedy ‘Why Him?’
The 10-episode half-hour series is written, executive produced, created by and starring Youssef. Jerrod Carmichael, A24’s Ravi Nandan, showrunner Bridget Bedard and co-creators Ari Katcher and Ryan Welch exec produce.
