By order of the ‘Peaky Blinders‘… The 5th Season of the smash-hit BBC drama returns Sunday, 25th August 2019 at 9pm it has been announced.
The 5th Season finds the world thrown into turmoil by the financial crash of 1929. Opportunity and misfortune are everywhere. When Tommy Shelby MP (Cillian Murphy) is approached by a charismatic politician with a bold vision for Britain, he realises that his response will affect not just his family’s future but that of the entire nation.
Alongside Murphy, the new season also features returning cast members Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle, Finn Cole, Kate Phillips, Natasha O’Keeffe, Aidan Gillen, Jack Rowan, Charlie Murphy, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Harry Kirton, Packy Lee, Ned Dennehy, Ian Peck and Benjamin Zephaniah.
They will be joined by new cast members Sam Claflin (‘The Nightingale, Adrift’, ‘Journey’s End’), Anya Taylor-Joy (‘Split’, ‘The Witch’), Brian Gleeson (‘Phantom Thread’, ‘Logan Lucky’), Neil Maskell (‘Happy New Year’, ‘In Darkness’), Kate Dickie (‘The Cry’, ‘The Witch’), Cosmo Jarvis (‘Calm With Horses’, ‘Lady Macbeth’)and Emmett J Scanlan (‘Safe’, and Lobo in ‘Krypton’), Elliot Cowan (‘The Spanish Princess’, ‘Krypton’), Charlene McKenna (‘Ripper Street’, ‘Pure Mule’), Andrew Koji (‘Warrior’, ‘The Innocence’) and Daryl McCormack (‘A Very English Scandal’) for the fifth series.
In addition to the premiere date announcement, the BBC has also released this photo of a rather stressed looking Tommy starring at a gun and a bullet whilst in the Shelby Distillery… Despite becoming an MP, it seems things never quite go the way ol’ Thomas had planned, but you know he is going to find a way out of the problem… we hope.
We caught up with some of the cast a few weeks ago at the World Premiere of Season 5 in Birmingham. You can see us chat with Sophie Rundle (Ada Thorne, née Shelby), Finn Cole (Michael Gray), Natasha O’Keeffe (Lizzie Shelby née Stark), Harry Kirton (Finn Shelby), Packy Lee (Johnny Dogs), and Daryl McCormack, who takes over the role of Isaiah Jesus from Jordan Bolger, below.
We also got to watch episode 1 and the start of episode 2 at the premiere. Obviously, we don’t want to spoil anything for you, but you will not be disappointed by the Shelby’s return. And that opening to episode 2 is pretty spectacular…
‘Peaky Blinders‘ Season 5 premieres Sunday, 25th August 2019 at 9pm on BBC One.
