Jonah Hill & Jeffrey Wright In Talks To Join Robert Pattinson In Matt Reeves ‘The Batman’

‘The Batman’ director Matt Reeves is circling a couple of possible co-stars for Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight, as it is revealed Jonah Hill and Jeffrey Wright are in talks for key roles on the movie. According to reports, Wright is in early talks for the role of Commissioner James Gordon, whilst Hill is being lined up for the part of an as-yet-undisclosed villain.

Back in January, Warner Bros set a release date of 25th June 2021 for the upcoming film, which meant the hunt was on for a new Batman. Ben Affleck had been the latest actor to play the cinematic Caped Crusader in ‘Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice’‘Suicide Squad’ and ‘Justice League’ movies. He was originally set to star, write and direct ‘The Batman’, but decided to step away from the project so Matt Reeves (‘Planet of the Apes’ films, ‘Felicity’) joined as writer and director. It was initially thought Affleck might still star in the Reeves version of the movie, but he decided to walk away entirely from his role as Gotham’s protector. It was then announced that Robert Pattinson would take the cowl.

Most recently, J.K. Simmons took on the role of Commissioner Gordon in the ‘Justice League’ movie opposite Affleck’s Bat. Prior to that, Gary Oldman played the part in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy. Jeffrey Wright is probably best known right now for his part as Bernard in HBO’s ‘Westworld’. Previously he won a Tony and an Emmy for his role as Belize on Broadway and on the HBO miniseries ‘Angels in America’. He also plays Felix Leiter in the ‘James Bond’ movies and starred as Beetee in ‘The Hunger Games’ films.

Jonah Hill has starred in a huge range of tv and film from ’21 & 22 Jump Street’, to ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’, to Netflix’s wonderfully odd ‘Maniac’. At the moment, it isn’t clear who Reeves would like him to play in ‘The Batman’. There are a lot of people suggesting The Penguin, but we think that is unlikely. Another suggestion is The Riddler, which would seem like a very good fit, but this is all speculation at this point, so we will have to wait for an official announcement.

Both of these potential recruitments are said to be in “early discussions” and deals have not closed yet, so things could all fall apart. We’ll let you know when something is confirmed.

‘The Batman’ is due to hit theatres worldwide on Friday, 25th June 2021.
