Amazon Announces Alison Pill, Ryan Kwanten, Percy Hynes White & More Join Supernatural Horror Series ‘Them: Covenant’

Amazon has announced some new casting for Season 1 of their upcoming supernatural horror event series Them: Covenant‘.

Written by Little Marvin, the 1953-set series centres on Henry and Lucky Emory, played by the previously announced Deborah Ayorinde (‘Luke Cage’, ‘True Detective’) and Ashley Thomas (‘Top Boy’, ’24: Legacy’). The couple, along with their children, decides to move from North Carolina to an all-white Los Angeles neighbourhood. Whilst the family’s home is on a tree-lined, seemingly idyllic street, it soon becomes ground zero where malevolent forces, both real and supernatural, threaten to taunt, ravage and destroy them.

Announced as joining the cast today are:

Alison Pill who portrays Betty Wendell, a resident whose suburban life is interrupted by the arrival of the Emory family. Pill starred in ‘The Newsroom’, and is no stranger to the supernatural, having also appeared in ‘American Horror Story: Cult’. She can be seen next in the upcoming ‘Star Trek: Picard’ series.

Ryan Kwanten as Korean War vet George Bell, the neighbourhood milkman, and local dreamboat. He is probably best known for his role as Jason Stackhouse in ‘True Blood’, but more recently has starred in both ‘Sacred Lies’ and ‘The Oath’.

Percy Hynes White will play Davis, described as a “blossoming hep-cat”, who has been treated as an outsider most of his life. White is best known for playing the young and troubled Andy Strucker in ‘The Gifted’.

Javier Botet has been cast in a series regular role, but the exact character has yet to be announced. The Spanish actor has appeared in a number of movies and films, most recently ‘It: Chapter Two’, ‘Slender Man’, in which he was the title character, and he also played The Ba’ul in ‘Star Trek: Discovery’. Given those are all creature-type roles, I suspect he will be doing the same here.

Derek Phillips has been cast in the recurring role of East Compton’s Police Department’s Sgt. Bull Wheatley. Phillips previously has appeared as Earl Swagger in ‘Shooter’, Travis Murphy in ‘Longmire’ and also popped up in ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ as Agent O’Brien.

Also joining the cast today are Shahadi Wright Joseph, who plays the elder of the Emory children, Ruby Lee, whilst Melody Hurd will play the younger sibling, Gracie Emory. Whilst you might not recognise Joseph’s face, you may have heard her voice as she was Young Nala in the “live-action” version of Disney’s ‘Lion King’, and also stared in Jordan Peele’s movie ‘Us’. Hurd is just starting out, but she will appear next year in the movie ‘Fatherhood’ with Kevin Hart.

‘Them: Covenant’ is created and executive produced by Little Marvin along with executive producers Lena Waithe, Miri Yoon, Roy Lee and Michael Connolly of Vertigo Entertainment. David Matthews will serve as executive producer and showrunner, with Larysa Kondracki (‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’, ‘Power’) directing episodes one and four of the first season. The series is co-produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television.

Them: Covenant‘ Season 1 begins production this month with a view to premiering in 2020.
