‘Star Trek: Picard’ Gets New Trailer & January Premiere Date On Amazon Prime UK & CBS All Access
Get ready to “Engage!” this January when ‘Star Trek: Picard‘ premieres on Amazon Prime in the UK and CBS All Access in the US.
The new Star Trek series features Sir Patrick Stewart reprising his role as the venerable Jean-Luc Picard, which he played for seven seasons on ‘Star Trek: Next Generation’. The series will follow this iconic character in the next chapter of his life.
As you can see in the trailer, he seems to be heading off on an epic journey with a new crew, and we do know that this won’t be Picard rejoining Starfleet after his retirement. The new cast helping Picard includes Alison Pill (‘The Newsroom’) as Dr. Agnes Jurati, Harry Treadaway (‘Penny Dreadful’) as Narek, Isa Briones (‘American Crime Story: Versace’) as Dahj, Santiago Cabrera (‘Salvation’) as Cristobal “Chris” Rios, Evan Evagora as Elnor, and Michelle Hurd (‘Blindspot’) as Raffi Musiker.
As you can see in the trailer, the show will feature some old faces to go along with the new ones. Jonathan Frakes (Riker) Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi), Jeri Ryan (Seven Of Nine), and Brent Spiner (Data) will all be making appearances.
From previous reports, we also know it is set after the events of ‘Nemesis’, and the 2009 ‘Star Trek’ movie, which saw original Spock/Spock Prime (Leonard Nimoy), trying to save the Romulan homeworld of Romulus from a Supernova using Red Matter. Spock ultimately fails, and Romulus explodes. This cataclysmic event and the dissolution of the Romulan Empire has “radically altered” the life of Picard according to show creator Alex Kurtzman, and altered the balance of power in the galaxy. The new show will be the first time we’ve seen anything canon set in the “Prime” universe timeline post the destruction of Romulus.
‘Star Trek: Picard‘ premieres Friday, 24th January 2020 on Amazon Prime in the UK and Thursday, January 23, 2020, on CBS All Access in the USA.
