Netflix Releases Trailer & Christmas Premiere Date For ‘Lost In Space’ Season 2

by Dave Elliott

If you were wondering what to do on Christmas Eve this year, one option would be to binge your way through the 2nd Season of Netflix series Lost In Space, which premieres Tuesday, 24th December 2019.

‘Lost in Space’ is a modern reimagining of the classic 1960’s science fiction series. Set 30 years in the future, colonization in space is now a reality, and the Robinson family is among those tested and selected to make a new life for themselves in a better world. But when the new colonists find themselves abruptly torn off-course en route to their new home they must forge new alliances and work together to survive in a dangerous alien environment, lightyears from their original destination.

If you remember the end of the first season, they had managed to find more survivours and get back into space aboard two of the Jupiter spacecraft to dock with the Resolute mothership. Unfortunately for the Robinsons, the alien engine they had “borrowed” to fix the Jupiter 2 decided it had its own destination in mind, and rather than allowing them to rejoin the group, fired up sending the Robinsons off into another galaxy. A galaxy whose shape Will had seen before in the Robot’s drawings, signalling one word… Danger.

A lot of Season 1 was centred around the young Will Robinson, and his connection to Robot, the alien lifeform he finds following the crash. Judging by the trailer, it seems that is likely to continue, as Will is searching for his metal buddy. Season 2 has the Robinsons stranded on a mysterious ocean planet without Robot. The family must work together, alongside the mischievous and manipulative Dr. Smith and the always charming Don West, to make it back to the Resolute and reunite with the other colonists. But they quickly find all is not as it seems as they look for the key to finding Robot and safe passage to Alpha Centauri.

The show stars Toby Stephens (‘Black Sails’, ‘Die Another Day’) as John Robinson, and Molly Parker (‘House of Cards’, ‘Deadwood’) as Maureen Robinson. As the Robinson kids, Taylor Russell (‘Falling Skies’) is the strong-willed and confident Judy, Mina Sundwall (‘Maggie’s Plan’, ‘Freeheld’) is the quick-witted and definitive middle-child Penny, and Max Jenkins (‘Sense8’, ‘Betrayal’) is the curious and sensitive Will Robinson. Brian Steele portrays The Robot.

Stranded along with the Robinsons are two outsiders who find themselves thrown together by circumstance and a mutual knack for deception, the unsettlingly charismatic Dr. Smith played by Parker Posey (‘Café Society’, ‘Mascots’, ‘A Mighty Wind’) and the inadvertently charming Don West, played by Ignacio Serricchio (‘Bones’, ‘The Wedding Ringer’).

This Season also introduces JJ Feild (‘Turn Up Charlie’, ‘Captain America’) as Ben Adler. He an academic contemporary Maureen, and chief of advanced systems and artificial intelligence.

The series is produced by Legendary Television and written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (‘Dracula Untold’, ‘The Last Witch Hunter’). Zack Estrin (‘Prison Break’) serves as showrunner.

Lost In Space‘ Season 2 premiere Tuesday, 24th December 2019 on Netflix UK and worldwide.
