by Dave Elliott

Apple TV+ has released the first trailer for the upcoming true-crime drama Truth Be Told, which premieres Friday, 6th December 2019, starring Octavia Spencer & Aaron Paul.

When new evidence compels podcaster Poppy Parnell (Octavia Spencer – ‘Hidden Figures’, ‘The Shape of Water’) to reopen the murder case that made her a national sensation, she comes face to face with Warren Cave (Aaron Paul – ‘Breaking Bad’), the man she may have mistakenly helped to put behind bars. Her investigation navigates urgent concerns about privacy, media and race.

Alongside Spencer and Paul, the series stars Lizzy Caplan (‘Castle Rock’, ‘Masters of Sex’) as Josie and Lanie Burhman, the twin daughter of the murdered man; Elizabeth Perkins (‘Weeds’, ‘Sharp Objects’) as Warren’s mother, Melanie Cave; Michael Beach (‘The 100’, ‘Sons of Anarchy’) as Ingram Rhoades, Poppy’s husband; Mekhi Phifer (‘ER’, ‘Chicago P.D.’) as former detective Markus Knox, who is also a long-time friend of Poppy; Tracie Thoms (‘UnREAL’, ‘9-1-1’) as Poppy’s older sister Desiree, with Haneefah Wood (‘Baskets’, ‘Schooled’) as younger sister Cydie; And Ron Cephas Jones (‘This Is Us’, ‘Luke Cage’) as Poppy’s father, Leander “Shreve” Scoville.

The series is created and written by Nichelle Tramble Spellman (‘The Good Wife’, ‘Justified’), based on Kathleen Barber’s true-crime novel. Chernin Entertainment/Endeavor Content and Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine produce the drama.
