MCM London: The Man, The Myth, The Legend… The Mr Simon Pegg Panel

by Dave Elliott

Sunday at MCM London Comic-Con saw the legend that is Mr. Simon Pegg take to the Main Stage for a chat about… well… everything! As far as I can tell, he wasn’t there to really promote anything and was really just there to geek out and talk.

Simon has, of course, been in a multitude of franchises at this point, along with having his own impressive body of work. There is ‘Spaced’, which is 20 years old this year (yes… you are that old!), along with the “Cornetto trilogy” of ‘Shaun of the Dead’, ‘Hot Fuzz’, and ‘The World’s End’. He also has a new paranormal horror-comedy series with Nick Frost, ‘Truth Seekers’, coming to Amazon at some point next year.

Outside of his original work, he played Scotty in the new ‘Star Trek’ movies, and co-wrote ‘Star Trek Beyond’, the third of the films set in the “Kelvin Timeline”. He also crossed over onto ‘Star Wars’, playing Unkar Plutt, which means, as he happily points out in the panel, he has been in responsible for both the USS Enterprise and the Millennium Falcon.

Moving away from space, he starred as Ogden Morrow in the film adaptation of ‘Ready Player One’, provided the voice for The Chamberlain in Netflix’s ‘The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance’, and plays Benji Dunn in the ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise. He has also popped up in ‘Doctor Who’, ‘Band of Brothers’ and Amazon’s comic book series ‘The Boys’, where he plays Hugh Campbell, father of Hughie, the character whose likeness was based on him in the original book!

Watching him just talk about his life, and all his work was a complete pleasure, and I could have happily sat and listened to him tell stories all day. Sadly, he had to head back to meeting fans for photos and signings, but I hope they can have him back soon.
