The CW Are Developing A ‘Superman & Lois’ Series With Tyler Hoechlin & Elizabeth Tulloch

It looks like ‘Supergirl’s more famous cousin could be getting his own show, as The CW puts a ‘Superman & Lois’ series into development, with Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch as the leads.

The series, which comes from ‘The Flash’ EP Todd Helbing and Arrowverse boss Greg Berlanti, would revolve around the world’s most famous superhero and comic books’ most famous journalist as they deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society.

Tyler Hoechlin has been playing Superman in the Arrowverse since 2016, alongside Elizabeth Tulloch joining him in 2018 as Lois Lane. Prior to appearing on the DC shows, Hoechlin starred in ‘Teen Wolf’, whilst Tulloch was best known for her role on ‘Grimm’. Both the actors and their characters are next due to appear in the ‘Crisis On Infinite Earths’ crossover event.

As you probably know by now if you’ve been following the UK news, the crossover in the UK will be missing the ‘Batwoman’ episode (part 2 of the event). This is due to Sky being unable to purchase it from rights holders WarnerMedia as it has apparently been sold to someone else… although no one has yet come forward to claim the ‘Batwoman’ series, or announced a UK broadcast date. It has been rumoured that WarnerMedia themselves are holding onto it for the UK launch of their streaming service HBO Max. However, that has now been debunked, as Sky has renewed and expanded their carriage deal for HBO content. So we are still left with the question as to who in the UK has the license to the ‘Batwoman’ series…

Unlike the previously announced ‘Green Arrow & The Canaries’ “backdoor pilot”, the ‘Superman & Lois’ pilot won’t be wedged into a current run of the existing shows. That series sees Katie Cassidy Rodgers reprise her role as Laurel Lance, along with Juliana Harkavy as Dinah Drake, and Katherine McNamara as Mia Smoak, with Mia donning her father’s Green Arrow mantle. There has also talk of an as-yet-unnamed 3rd potential new Arrowverse series, but using characters who have yet to be introduced to the DC/CW superhero world.

It seems that Berlanti & Co may be planning towards a “phase two” of the Arrowverse. ‘Arrow’ itself is set to end early next year, and the other shows – ‘The Flash’, ‘Supergirl’, and ‘Legends Of Tomorrow’ – are all racking up the series numbers. We could be getting to a point when we see some more of the original series come to an end, with more DC shows coming in to replace them. Personally (if you’re reading this Mr Berlanti) I would love a ‘Blue and Gold’ show with Booster Gold and Blue Beetle, but we will have to wait and see what comes next!

‘The Flash’ and ‘Supergirl’ have already returned to Sky One in the UK airing Mondays and Tuesdays, with ‘Arrow’ set to premiere Wednesday, 30th October 2019 at 8pm.
