‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ has a new UK home as Sky Witness announces a December UK premiere date for the historic 21st Season of the crime drama.
‘Law & Order: SVU’ chronicles the life and crimes of the Special Victims Unit of the New York City Police Department, an elite squad of detectives who investigate crimes of sexual assault, child abuse and domestic violence. It previously held the title of the longest-running US primetime drama currently on television, but this latest season now surpasses the original ‘Law & Order’ and ‘Gunsmoke’ as the longest-running primetime US drama ever.
The move from Universal to Sky Witness comes following the acquisition of Sky by Comcast, who also owns NBCUniversal in the US. This change led to Sky taking control of the NBCU assets in the UK, including the Universal channel, where they started to shift some of the programming across on to Sky Witness, such as ‘Chicago Med’, and now, ‘Law & Order: SVU’. It’s unclear what exactly will happen to Universal moving forward at the moment.
When we return to the fray for Season 21, an actress accuses a high-powered media mogul of attempted rape, forcing Benson into a high-stakes game of cat and mouse. Meanwhile, changes in the squad room put Carisi between a rock and a hard place.
The series stars Mariska Hargitay as Lieutenant Olivia Benson, Ice T as Sergeant Odafin Tutuola, Kelli Giddish as Detective Amanda Rollins and Peter Scanavino as Dominick Carisi Jr.
‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ Season 21 premieres Tuesday 10th December 2019 at 10pm on Sky Witness.
