BBC Releases ‘Doctor Who’ Season 12 Trailer, Goran Visnjic & Robert Glenister To Guest Star

by Dave Elliott

The BBC has released the first trailer for Season 12 of Doctor Who, which arrives in early 2020, along with announcing Goran Visnjic and Robert Glenister will be appearing as guest stars in the upcoming series.

Jodie Whittaker is set to return as the Thirteenth Doctor alongside Tosin Cole (Ryan) Mandip Gill (Yaz) and Bradley Walsh (Graham) for more adventures in time and space. Whilst there isn’t an official synopsis of the new season yet, we do already know the Judoon are set to return, and by the looks of this trailer, the Cybermen are also back. We also get some glimpses of previously announced guest stars Stephen Fry and Sir Lenny Henry. It seems Fry will be playing a government official of some sort (prime minister maybe?), and Sir Len is seen shooting out of the back of a car…

Joining Fry and Henry in guest roles will be Goran Visnjic, who is no stranger to time travel (or doctors!), and Robert Glenister who is no stranger to Doctor Who! Until recently, Visnjic was starring on the US time-travel series ‘Timeless’, and was previously best known for his role on medical drama ‘ER’.

“I’ve always been a huge fan of Doctor Who, so when the offer to play one of my favourite people in history came, it made me so happy to be part of the show and it turned into this awesome, dream job!” commented Visnjic.

Glenister starred in ‘Hustle’, ‘Spooks’, ‘Cold Feet’ and most recently the Sky One series ‘Curfew’. However, way back in 1984, he played the role of Salateen in the pivotal ‘The Caves of Androzani’ storyline of ‘Doctor Who’, which saw Peter Davison’s Fifth Doctor regenerate into Colin Baker’s Sixth Doctor.

“I first appeared in Doctor Who in The Caves of Androzani at the tender age of 24 in 1984,” said Glenister. “Thirty-five years later I got to be in it again at the not so tender age of nearly 60. How time flies!”

Other guest stars announced this season include Jo Martin (‘Holby City’), Anjli Mohindra (‘Bodyguard’, ‘The Sarah Jane Adventures’), and James Buckley (‘The Inbetweeners’), amongst others.

“One of the great joys of Doctor Who are the legendary actors who want to come and join in the Doctor’s adventures,” adds Matt Strevens, Executive Producer “We were thrilled to welcome Goran and Robert, whose worked we’ve loved and admired for years. They create two iconic characters who are going to delight and entertain.”

Whilst we don’t yet have an exact premiere date for ‘Doctor Who‘ Season 12, it will return in early 2020.
