Amazon Prime UK has released a new trailer and revealed the title of the teen-led spin-off series to ‘The Walking Dead’. Coming Spring 2020 to Amazon in the UK and AMC in the US – The Walking Dead: World Beyond.

The new series features two young female protagonists and focuses on the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse as we know it. Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.

Whilst these young adults have only known a world with “empties” (their word for walkers), they grew up protected behind walls in (relative) comfort and safety. Their settlement seems to have managed to get back to something resembling pre-apocalypse civilisation, but, of course, these teens are not going to stay there… A small group leave their compound and head out into the surrounding wasteland on a mission beyond their walls. It isn’t clear exactly where they are heading, although it seems to have something to do with one teen’s father going missing.

One thing that does appear in the latest trailer is that mysterious helicopter with the “three circles” symbol similar to the one we last saw whisking away a certain Mr Rick Grimes. In the panel at NYCC a few months ago, ‘The Walking Dead’ CCO Scott Gimple talked about the significance of that logo. “Those three circles, and I’m saying it here, represent three different civilizations that are bound and entwined in some ways and in some ways very, very different,” he commented. “The place they’re from is one of those places.”

The series stars Annet Mahendru (‘Tyrant’, ‘The Americans’) as Huck, Aliyah Royale (‘The Red Line’) as Iris, Alexa Mansour (‘SEAL Team’, ‘#SquadGoals’) as Hope, Nicolas Cantu (‘The Amazing World of Gumball’, ‘Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures’) as Elton, and Hal Cumpston as Silas.

The drama comes from ‘The Walking Dead’ writer/producer Matt Negrete, who serves as Showrunner, and co-created the project with Scott Gimple, CCO of The Walking Dead Universe. The series is produced by AMC Studios.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond‘ premieres Spring 2020 on Amazon Prime Video across Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe (excluding Spain and Portugal). The series will be available in North and South America, Spain and Portugal on AMC.
