Netflix Renews ‘Raising Dion’ For Season 2

by Dave Elliott

Netflix has handed a 2nd Season to sci-fi drama Raising Dion, based on the comic book by Dennis Liu.

‘Raising Dion’ follows the story of a Nicole (Alisha Wainwright – ‘Shadowhunters’), who raises her son Dion (newcomer Ja’Siah Young) after the death of her husband, Mark (Michael B. Jordan – ‘Black Panther’). The normal dramas of raising a son as a single mom are amplified when Dion starts to manifest several mysterious, superhero-like abilities. Nicole must now keep her son’s gifts secret with the help of Mark’s best friend Pat (Jason Ritter – ‘The Event’, ‘Gravity Falls’), and protect Dion from antagonists out to exploit him while figuring out the origin of his abilities.

Season 2 will be a little shorter than Season 1, with only 8-hourlong episodes. Carol Barbee (‘UnREAL’, ‘Jericho’, ‘Touch’) is set to return as showrunner/executive producer, alongside Michael B. Jordan through his Outlier Society Productions, Michael Green (‘American Gods’, ‘Logan’), Charles D. King, and Kenny Goodman. The drama is the brainchild of commercial and music video director Dennis Liu, who created the comic book and directed the short film, which became a viral hit. He also serves as exec producer.

The series worked well for Netflix, being the most popular kids and family series in 2019 for the streamer, along with ranking 10th most popular series overall. Season 2 will go into production in 2020. You can watch the video announcement below, which features Senegalese painter Bou Bou producing a portrait of Nicole and Dion.

Raising Dion‘ Season 1 can be watched right now on Netflix UK and around the world.
