New channel Sky Comedy will be launching on Monday, 27th January 2020 in the UK, and it will be packed with new comedy premieres from HBO, NBC and Showtime, along with some shows from Sky Atlantic shifting over to a new home. Here is a rundown of the series they have announced so far and when you can see them.
First Week Premieres
‘Miracle Workers’ Season 1 – Monday, 27th January 2020 at 9pm
Based on Simon Rich’s book, ‘What in God’s Name’, Season 1 turns the perception of heaven on its head while also making the case that humans are worth saving. Daniel Radcliffe plays Craig, a low-level angel responsible for handling all of humanity’s prayers. Steve Buscemi plays Craig’s boss… aka God… who has pretty much checked out to focus on petty hobbies.
To prevent Earth’s destruction, Craig and fellow angel Eliza (Geraldine Viswanathan – ‘Blockers’) must answer a seemingly impossible prayer: help two humans, Laura (Sasha Compere – ‘The Dead Girls Detective Agency’) and Sam (Jon Bass – ‘Baywatch’, ‘Dog Days’), fall in love. Karan Soni (‘Deadpool’) also stars as Sanjay, God’s right-hand man. Season 1 guest stars include Tituss Burgess, Margaret Cho, Angela Kinsey, Tim Meadows, John Reynolds, Lolly Adefope and Chris Parnell.
‘A.P. Bio’ Season 1 – Monday, 27th January 2020 at 9:30pm
When disgraced Harvard philosophy scholar Jack Griffin (Glenn Howerton) loses out on his dream job, he is forced to return to Toledo, Ohio, and work as a high school Advanced Placement biology teacher. As he comes crashing into Whitlock High School, Jack makes it absolutely clear he will not be teaching any biology. Realizing he has a room full of honour-roll students at his disposal, Jack decides instead to use the kids for his own benefit.
‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ Season 10 – Tuesday, 28th January 2020 at 9pm
The off-kilter comedy series sees Larry David play… well… Larry David, a Los Angeles based television writer and producer who stumbles through one faux-pas after another. Season 9 showed that even a 6-year break hasn’t dulled David’s wit. The return drew in a huge array of guest performances from people such as Bryan Cranston, Lauren Graham, Jimmy Kimmel, Nick Offerman, Elizabeth Banks, Ed Begley Jr., Elizabeth Perkins, Damon Wayans Jr., Steven Weber, and the one and only Judge Judy.
‘Ballers’ Season 5 – Tuesday, 28th January 2020 at 9:40pm
Exploring the glamorous and often cutthroat world of pro football through a group of past and present players striving to stay in the game, ‘Ballers’ stars Johnson as ex-superstar Spencer Strasmore, who has reinvented himself as a financial manager for today’s players.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon & The Late Late Show with James Corden – from Tuesday, 28th January 2020 at 10:50pm
Sky Comedy brings you a late-night fix of top-rated talk shows express from the US with daily airings of ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ & ‘The Late Late Show with James Corden’.
This is only the line up for the first few days. In the following weeks, we’ll also have giant US comedy institution ‘Saturday Night Live‘ airing weekly (albeit on Sundays, the day after the US) for the first time in over a decade in the UK. Also HBO comedies ‘The Righteous Gemstones‘ will be coming very soon along with Kathryn Hahn comedy ‘Mrs. Fletcher‘.
