British actress Riann Steele has landed the female lead, opposite Jonathan Tucker, in NBC’s upcoming sci-fi pilot ‘Debris’ from ‘Almost Human’ creator J.H. Wyman and Legendary Television it has been announced.

The potential series, which is said to be a cross between ‘X-Files’ and ‘Men In Black’, follows two agents from two different continents and two different mindsets. Jonathan Tucker (‘Westworld’, ‘City on a Hill’) plays CIA agent Bryan Beneventi, a headstrong, smart operative who is working on the investigation of strange occurrences. Beneventi finds himself forced to work alongside MI6 agent Finola Jones (Steele), who is described as a “classic rule follower”, on an investigation when wreckage from a destroyed alien spacecraft has mysterious effects on humankind.

Riann Steele is probably best known to UK audiences for playing Lauren Minster in ‘Holby City’, Suzanne in the Channel 4 series ‘Crazyhead’, and Cleo the comedy ‘Lovesick’. More recently, she has been popping up in various US dramas including ‘The Blacklist’, ‘NCIS: New Orleans’, ‘Legacies’ and ‘The Magicians’.

‘Almost Human’ creator J.H. Wyman exec produces the pilot through his Frequency Films alongside Jason Hoffs (‘Edge of Tomorrow’, ‘The Terminal’). Whilst ‘Almost Human’ was cruelly axed after only one season, the other major show Wyman worked on as writer and EP was the magnificent ‘Fringe’, so we’re really interested to see where this new pilot goes.

‘Debris’ is currently only a pilot order at NBC but we’ll let you know if it moves forward.
