James Purefoy, Edward Hogg, Jessye Romeo, Ramon Tikaram & Harriet Slater Announced As Series Regulars For ‘Pennyworth’ Season 2

Batman-adjacent series Pennyworth has just begun shooting it’s 2nd Season, which is due to air this Summer on US network EPIX (and later on STARZPLAY in the UK), and they have announced a new set of series regulars for the drama.

The one-hour series from Warner Horizon Scripted Television follows Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon), a former British SAS soldier in his 20s, who forms a security company in 1960s London and goes to work with young billionaire Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge), who has not yet become Bruce Wayne’s father.

The new cast includes James Purefoy as Alfie’s former SAS Captain, Gulliver Troy. He is a charismatic, cultured brute and a powerful man of appetites – whether that be drink, women or danger. Purefoy has recently been starring in Netflix series ‘Altered Carbon’ (Season 2 now streaming on Netflix from today!) and ‘Sex Education’, along with the final season of ‘Hap and Leonard’. He previously starred in Fox series ‘The Following’, and the utterly brilliant HBO drama ‘Rome’.

Edward Hogg takes the role of Colonel Salt, a would-be despot masquerading as an obedient civil servant, who is a calculating killer, whether by pen or sword. Hogg is a familiar face to UK audiences having starred in ‘Silent Witness’, ‘Taboo’, ‘Indian Summers’ and ‘Harlots’. He also popped up in the movie ‘Jupiter Ascending’.

Katie Browning plays Jessye Romeo, an idealistic art student whose life is uprooted by civil war. She is described as “righteous, defiant and wonderfully naive.”

Actors upped to series regular roles this year include Ramon Tikaram who returns as Inspector Victor Aziz, season one’s charming, sardonic policeman, keeping his clear head and dry wit even as London descends into chaos. Tikaram has appeared in a host of shows from the classic ‘This Life’, to Sky’s ‘Fortitude’, ‘Brassic’ and ‘Stella’, to ‘Eastenders’ and ‘Casualty’.

Harriet Slater also returns as Sandra Onslow, budding 60s starlet, and Alfie’s on-again-off-again girlfriend. Sandra is now the resident singer in his club, with dreams of becoming the next Sandie Shaw.

In addition to Bannon (‘The Imitation Game’, ‘Ripper Street’) and Aldridge (‘Our Girl’, ‘Fleabag’), ‘Pennyworth’ Season 2 sees the return of stars Emma Paetz (‘Gentleman Jack’), Hainsley Lloyd Bennett (‘Eastenders’), Ryan Fletcher (‘Outlander’), Dorothy Atkinson (‘Mr. Turner’, ‘Topsy-Turvy’), and Polly Walker (‘Rome’, ‘Caprica’), with Jason Flemyng (‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’) and featuring multi-award-winning recording artist Paloma Faith.

Based on characters created for DC by Bob Kane with Bill Finger, Pennyworth was developed by Bruno Heller (‘Gotham’, ‘The Mentalist’, ‘Rome’) who executive produces with Danny Cannon (‘Gotham’, ‘CSI’ series) and Matthew Patnick (‘The Night Manager’, ‘Peaky Blinders’).

Pennyworth‘ Season 2 will air Summer 2020 on EPIX in the US, and later on STARZPLAY in the UK.
