FX Casts Ben Schnetzer As Yorick In ‘Y: The Last Man’ Comic Book Adaptation

FX channel’s upcoming adaptation of comic book Y: The Last Man has found their leading man as Ben Schnetzer lands the role of Yorick Brown.

The story follows Yorick Brown (Schnetzer), the last male human survivor of a planet-wide plague that simultaneously kills every mammal possessing a Y chromosome. The event not only kills the men, but causes disasters worldwide, such as cars crashing and plunging planes out of the sky as their male pilots drop dead, also killing millions of women and children across the globe.

As the planet descends into a post-apocalyptic nightmare, Yorick, accompanied by a mysterious government agent, a brilliant young geneticist and his pet monkey, Ampersand, travels the world in search of his lost love and the answer to why he’s the last man on earth.

Ben Schnetzer began acting in his teens on the ABC drama ‘Happy Town’. Most recently he appeared in Epix miniseries ‘The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair’, and has popped up in movies such as ‘Snowden’ and ‘Warcraft: The Beginning’.

The drama, which was ordered to series back in February 2019, has had a bit of a rocky start in production. Michael Green (‘American Gods’) and Aïda Mashaka Croal (‘Marvel’s Luke Cage’) were originally set as showrunners for the series, but left in April 2019 over the old “creative differences”. Eliza Clark (‘Animal Kingdom’, ‘Extant’) then stepped in to replace them. Additionally, ‘Dunkirk’ star Barry Keoghan was originally cast as Yorick but left the role earlier this month. Hopefully, with a new leading man, things have finally settled for the production.

Schnetzer joins the previously announced cast which includes Diane Lane (‘Man of Steel’) as junior congresswoman Senator Jennifer Brown, who is also Yorick’s mother; Imogen Poots (’28 Weeks Later’) as Hero Brown, Yorick’s sister, a tough and confident EMT who nurses a deep emotional trauma that often leads her to cross personal and professional lines; Lashana Lynch (‘Captain Marvel’) as Agent 355, a Secret Service agent who performs the duties of her job with the utmost professionalism — even under the most unexpected circumstances; Juliana Canfield (‘Succession’), as Beth, a Brooklyn-based knife maker who grew up on a farm and went to New York to experience the big city. She finds something endearing about the hapless Yorick and when they’re together, there’s the undeniable spark of two kids in love; Marin Ireland (‘Sneaky Pete’) as Nora, the president’s senior assistant and right hand, who effortlessly balances family life with a job navigating the corridors of power; And Amber Tamblyn (‘Two and a Half Men’) as Mariette Callows, the daughter of the President of the United States, who has been groomed for a career in politics and to uphold her father’s conservative values.

FX is set to premiere Y: The Last Man during 2020 in the US. The BBC carriage deal for FX shows should mean that it airs somewhere on the BBC in the UK, but we’ll have to wait and see.
