Amazon Prime Sets April UK Premiere Date For ‘New Amsterdam’ Season 2, Part 2
The doctors of ‘New Amsterdam‘ return, as Amazon Prime sets an April UK premiere date for Season 2, part 2, of the brilliant medical drama.
Inspired by the oldest public hospital in America, this unique medical drama stars Ryan Eggold (‘The Blacklist’) as the brilliant and charming Dr. Max Goodwin, the institution’s newest medical director, who sets out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care. How can he help? Well, the doctors and staff have heard this before. Not taking “no” for an answer, Dr. Goodwin must disrupt the status quo and prove he will stop at nothing to breathe new life into this understaffed, underfunded and underappreciated hospital – the only one in the world capable of treating Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers and the president of the United States under one roof – and return it to the glory that put it on the map.
The series also stars Janet Montgomery (‘The Romanoffs’) as Dr. Lauren Bloom, Freema Agyeman (‘Doctor Who’) as Dr. Helen Sharpe, Jocko Sims (‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan’) as Dr. Floyd Reynolds, Anupam Kher (‘Silver Linings Playbook’) as Dr. Vijay Kapoor, and Tyler Labine (‘StartUp’) as Dr. Iggy Frome.
Due to the current coronavirus situation, this season will be a little shorter than originally planned, ending on episode 19 rather than episode 22. Along with a lot of other tv dramas, ‘New Amsterdam‘ had its filming shut down before that could get the last two episodes wrapped. For those of you doing the calculations in your head, yes, that does mean there is still one episode missing. That is because the episode in question had a storyline which featured a flu pandemic, which the producers, I think, quite rightly, decided would probably be best to shelves for now… “The world needs a lot less fiction right now, and a lot more facts,” commented series creator David Schulner at the time. The slight hiccup with the decision to shelve that episode is that it introduced trauma surgeon Dr. Cassian Shin, a new character played by ‘Hawaii Five-O’ star Daniel Dae Kim. However, the producers have managed to rejig things to make sure his intro still makes sense.
Although this season is shorter than planned, the show itself is not going anywhere, after NBC handed ‘New Amsterdam‘ a massive three-season renewal to the medical drama back in January. It’s not yet clear if those missing episodes from Season 2 will get tagged on in addition to Season 3, or whether the storyline will just continue over.
‘New Amsterdam‘ Season 2b will premiere Tuesday, 21st April 2020 on Amazon Prime UK, with episodes 10 to 19 landing as a boxset for you to binge though!
