Boba Fett Set To Appear In ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2, Played By Temuera Morrison

It looks like we might be getting another bounty hunter to appear in Season 2 of The Mandalorian, as news arrives that Star Wars veteran Temuera Morrison is set to play the legendary Boba Fett in the upcoming series.

According to reports in THR, the beloved bounty hunter will have a “small role” in the next season, although this actually might not be the first time we’ve seen him in ‘The Mandalorian’ (spoilers for episode one if incoming)…

Season 1 Episode 1, titled “The Gunslinger”, featured Mano chasing down the assassin and mercenary Fennec Shand (played by Ming-Na Wen). At the end of that encounter, we see Shand’s (apparently lifeless) body approached by a character. We don’t see much of him, except for the spurs on his boots, which were a rather unique part of Boba Fett’s outfit.

Now, some of you may be a little confused as last time we saw old Boba, he was diving headfirst into Tatooine’s Sarlacc Pit and, in current Star Wars continuity, that’s where he stayed… until now. In the old Extended Universe (aka Legends), which is now considered non-canon, he managed to escape the Sarlacc, but this would be the first sign of him appearing, post-Sarlacc, in the current continuity.

This would also mark the first time Temuera Morrison has played the character in live-action. Morrison previously played Jango Fett in ‘Episode II – Attack of the Clones’, but as Boba Fett is an unmodified clone of Jango, it makes perfect sense he would portray the older Boba now. Since playing Jango, Morrison has voiced Boba Fett in various video games and movies, along with multiple Clone Troopers. Outside of Star Wars, he appeared in ‘Aquaman’ as Thomas Curry, played Abin Sur in ‘Green Lantern’, and voiced Chief Tui in ‘Moana’, amongst many other roles.

The only officially confirmed actor for ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2 at the moment is Pedro Pascal who will be back as Mando. Although not officially confirmed, it seems likely we will be seeing more of Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon, along with a few other faces from the first season. Other rumoured new castmembers include ‘Aliens’ and ‘Terminator’ actor Michael Biehn as a bounty hunter from Mando’s past, and Rosario Dawson (‘Daredevil’), who is believed to have been cast as fan-favourite Jedi, Ahsoka Tano.

Whilst Season 2 doesn’t land until later in the year, you can now watch ‘Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian’, an eight-episode documentary series that pulls back the curtain on the first season of ‘The Mandalorian’. Each chapter explores a different facet of the first live-action Star Wars television show through interviews, never-before-seen footage, and roundtable conversations hosted by Favreau.

Assuming all goes to plan, ‘The Mandalorian‘ Season 2 is expected to air Autumn 2020 on Disney+.
