CBS All Access Announces ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Series Starring Captain Pike, Spock & Number One

Ever since ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Season 2 introduced the crew of the Enterprise (pre-Kirk), fans have been shouting about how great it would be to have those characters in their own series… Now CBS All Access has listened and commissioned Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, a series which sees Anson Mount, Ethan Peck and Rebecca Romijn return as Captain Pike, Spock & Number One.

The reveal trailer above sees the cast announce that the show is coming, but doesn’t give any exact details on what it will entail. The name of the series and comments from the cast do hint that it will be more in line with a traditional episodic ‘Star Trek’ show, like the original series. According to reports, it will take the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise almost right up to the reign a certain Captain James T. Kirk. The official press release says “The series will follow Captain Pike, Science Officer Spock and Number One in the decade before Captain Kirk boarded the U.S.S. Enterprise, as they explore new worlds around the galaxy.”

“Fans fell in love with Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck’s portrayals of these iconic characters when they were first introduced on Star Trek Discovery last season,” commented Julie McNamara, EVP & CBS All Access Head of Programming. “This new series will be a perfect complement to the franchise, bringing a whole new perspective and series of adventures to Star Trek.”

The new series will premiere with a script penned by ‘Picard’ exec producer Akiva Goldsman, based on a story from ‘Star Trek’ boss Alex Kurtzman and exec producer Jenny Lumet. Henry Alonso Myers, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth also exec produce, with Aaron Baiers, Akela Cooper and Davy Perez as co-EPs. CBS Television Studios, Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment will produce the series.

“This is a dream come true, literally,” adds Goldsman. “I have imagined myself on the bridge of the Enterprise since the early 1970s. I’m honoured to be a part of this continuing journey along with Alex, Henry and the fine folks at CBS.”

‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ joins ‘Star Trek: Discovery’, which will be back for Season 3, along with a 2nd Season of ‘Star Trek: Picard’, the animated series ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’, and the Michelle Yeoh-fronted series set in Section 31.
