Sky One Orders ‘Code 404’ Season 2 Following Biggest Comedy Launch In 8 Years

Sky One has ordered a 2nd Season of Code 404, starring Stephen Graham, Daniel Mays and Anna Maxwell Martin, which is no great surprise, given the viewing figures for Season 1!

Detective Inspectors DI John Major (Mays) and DI Roy Carver (Graham) are the top crime-fighting duo in the Unit. But when an undercover sting goes horribly wrong, Major is gunned down on the job and killed. Full of guilt and regret about Major’s untimely death, Roy turns to the only person who understands him, John’s wife, Kelly (Maxwell Martin). However, John gets a reboot. Chosen by the police as the prototype for a new A.I. driven initiative, John is brought back from the dead – much to the surprise of Roy and Kelly. He’d like to believe he’s better than ever, but something isn’t quite right…

The series launched on Sky One and NOW TV in late April with a cumulative seven-day audience of 1.9m viewers for the opening episode, making it Sky’s biggest comedy launch in eight years. The show is also Sky’s fastest binged original comedy box set ever, with over 360,000 viewers watching the whole six-episode series before episode 2 aired on linear television.

“We’re blown away by the love our customers have shown Code 404. The winning combo of Stephen Graham, Daniel Mays and Anna Maxwell Martin has proven a force to be reckoned with and we’re ecstatic to be working on the second series,” commented Jon Mountague, Director of Comedy at Sky Studios. “Code 404 becomes the latest in an exceptionally strong run of original British comedies on Sky One including Brassic 2, Breeders, Intelligence, The Trip, Avenue 5 and Hitmen. We’re privileged to be tickling the UK’s funny bone right now.”

As Mark mentioned in that quote, Sky are on a bit of a roll with their comedy at the moment. ‘Code 404’ is the latest in a run of hit original comedies on Sky One launching with 1m+ audiences including ‘Brassic’ (1.67m), ‘Avenue 5’ (1.5m), ‘Bounty Hunters’ (1.4m), ‘In the Long Run’ (1.3m), ‘Intelligence’ (1.2m) and ‘Breeders’ (1.13m).

Following its debut in the UK, ‘Code 404’ is already set to air in a number of countries around the world including the US, where it will premiere on NBCUniversal’s new streaming service – “Peacock”, Russia and South Korea. NBCUniversal Global Distribution is handling international distribution on behalf of Sky Studios.

Code 404‘ Season 1 can be watched right now in the UK via Sky On Demand & NOW TV.
