Netflix Releases Trailer & July Premiere Date For Tom Wheeler/Frank Miller Arthurian Legend Series ‘Cursed’
Netflix has released the first trailer and a July premiere date for Arthurian Legend drama ‘Cursed‘ from writer Tom Wheeler & comic book supremo Frank Miller, starring Katherine Langford.
Based on the New York Times bestselling book, Cursed is a re-imagination of the Arthurian legend, told through the eyes of Nimue, played by ’13 Reasons Why‘ star, Katherine Langford. Nimue is a young woman with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake.
After her mother’s death, she finds an unexpected partner in Arthur (Devon Terrell – ‘Ophelia’, ‘The Professor’), a humble mercenary, in a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword. Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther. Cursed is a coming-of-age story whose themes are familiar to our own time: the obliteration of the natural world, religious terror, senseless war, and finding the courage to lead in the face of the impossible.
Joining Langford and Terrell, the cast includes Gustaf Skarsgård (‘Vikings’, ‘Westworld’) as Merlin, Daniel Sharman (‘Medici’, ‘Fear the Walking Dead’) as Weeping Monk, Sebastian Armesto (‘Gold Digger’, ‘Harlots’) as King Uther Pendragon, Matt Stokoe (‘Jamestown’, ‘The Musketeers’) as Gawain, Lily Newmark (‘Sex Education’, ‘Temple’) as Pym, Shalom Brune-Franklin (‘Our Girl’, ‘Bad Mothers’) as Igraine, Emily Coates (‘Ladhood’) as Sister Iris, Billy Jenkins (‘Humans’, ‘The Crown’) as Squirrel, Bella Dayne (‘Humans’, ‘Troy: Fall of a City’) as Red Spear, and Peter Mullan (‘Westworld’, ‘Ozark’) as Father Carden.
Zetna Fuentes (‘Jane the Virgin’, ‘Jessica Jones’) directs the first two of the ten-episode run and exec produces, alongside Miller and Wheeler. Sarah O’Gorman (‘The Witcher’, ‘The Last Kingdom’), Daniel Nettheim (‘Doctor Who’, ‘Humans’) and Jon East (‘Lost in Space’, ‘The Last Kingdom’) also direct episodes. Wheeler serves as writer, along with Miller, and is showrunner for the series.
