by Dave Elliott

Season 3 Of Stana Katic’s drama Absentia has been given a July premiere date on Amazon Prime it has been announced.

Absentia’ centres on FBI agent Emily Byrne (Katic), who, in Season 1, had disappeared without a trace and was declared dead after hunting one of Boston’s most notorious serial killers. Six years later, Emily was found in a cabin in the woods, barely alive, and with no memory of the years she was missing. Returning home to learn her husband, Special Agent Nick Durand (Patrick Heusinger – ‘Casual’), had remarried and her son, Flynn (Patrick McAuley – ‘The Conjuring 2’), was being raised by another woman, she soon found herself implicated in a new series of murders.

In Season 2, Emily was struggling to define her new normal as a mother and a survivor of six years of physical and mental torture. Even while she tried to rebuild her relationship with her son, Emily struggled to shake the darkness of her past. She enlisted Boston police detective Tommy Gibbs (Angel Bonanni, – ‘False Flag’) in a secret investigation of her mysterious history. As the case turned deadly, she risked everything to uncover the truth and protect her family.

Season 3 opens three months post the shocking conclusion of Season 2. Emily nearing the end of her suspension from the FBI, and still working hard to be the best mother she can be. Everything is upended when one of ex-husband Nick’s criminal cases hits too close to home and threatens the lives of the family she is desperately trying to hold together. It’s a dangerous journey that will take Emily far from Boston testing her like never before and forcing her to learn to trust again, to love again, and to finally realize her true place in the world.

The drama will have some new faces both in front of, and behind, the camera next season. Geoff Bell (‘Hatton Garden’, ‘His Dark Materials’) joins the cast as Colin Dawkins, a professional fixer for an international criminal organization who is polished, elegant and does everything with style and class. Josette Simon (‘Nightflyers’, ‘Broadchurch’, ‘Wonder Woman’) plays Rowena Kincade, a former instructor at Quantico and career intelligence agent with MI5 and MI6.

Behind the scenes, the series will get another new showrunner as Will Pascoe (‘Orphan Black’, ‘Chicago Med’) takes over the reins from Season 2’s Samantha Corbin-Miller. This will be the 3rd showrunner for the series in 3 Seasons following the departure of co-creator Matt Cirulnick after Season 1.

‘Absentia’ is produced by Bizu Productions in association with Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television’s Gemstone Studios. It is exec produced by Julie Glucksman (‘Still Small Voices’), Katic, Pascoe and Kasia Adamik, who also serves as a director alongside Greg Zgli?ski. The series was created by Gaia Violo (‘Blood & Treasure’) and Matt Cirulnick (‘South Beach’) and is based on a pilot script originally written by Violo.

Absentia‘ Season 3 premieres Friday, 17th July 2020, with all 10 episodes landing on Amazon Prime UK, USA, and other select territories.
