Apple orders Comedy Series ‘The Afterparty’ From Oscar-Winning Duo Chris Miller & Phil Lord

Apple has ordered The Afterparty, a new comedy series from ‘The Lego Movie’ Academy Award, BAFTA and Golden Globe Award-winning duo Chris Miller & Phil Lord.

‘The Afterparty’ is a murder-mystery comedy set at a high school reunion afterparty. Each of the eight episodes will feature a retelling of the same night told through a different character’s perspective, each with its own unique visual format and film genre to match the teller’s personality.

Miller will serve as creator, showrunner and executive producer and Lord will executive produce through the pair’s production shingle, Lord Miller. Lord Miller’s VP of Television Aubrey Lee will serve as producer. The series will be produced for Apple by TriStar TV and Sony Pictures Television, where Lord and Miller currently have an expansive five-year overall television deal.

Chris Miller and Phil Lord first shot to fame as writer/directors of the wonderfully bizarre animated feature ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs’. Since then, then have ‘The Lego Movie’ and served as exec producers on ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’, based on a story by Lord. On TV, the wrote and produced on ‘How I Met Your Mother’, directed and produced ‘The Last Man on Earth’, and exec produced the live-action/animation hybrid series ‘Son of Zorn’. They also worked on the Star Wars movie ‘Solo’, before being replaced by Ron Howard after some “creative differences” over the direction of the film.

For those of you wondering how to get Apple TV+, from 1st November, the service will be available on the Apple TV app via iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, iPod touch, Mac, and online at tv.apple.com across 100 countries and regions, including the UK. It will also be coming to select Samsung, Sony, LG and Vizio smart TVs, Roku and Amazon Fire TV devices, although they aren’t all going to be available for the launch. The service costs £4.99 per month with a seven-day free trial, but if you happen to be in the market for one of the Apple products listed above, you get will get 12 months of Apple TV+ for free.

There’s no suggested premiere date for The Afterparty yet, but we wouldn’t expect to see it before at least 2021. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
