Disney Plus Releases Trailer For ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2, Premiering October

by Dave Elliott

Disney+ has released the first trailer for Season 2 of critically-acclaimed Star Wars series The Mandalorian, and it looks as brilliant as the previous outing.

Set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order, ‘The Mandalorian’ follows the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic. Over the course of season one, Din Djarin, aka “Mando”, finds himself with a bounty to kill a target, only to discover that the target in question is something very different to what he expected… When greeted by the adorable face of “The Child” (often referred to as “Baby Yoda”), Mando takes the infant into his protection, leading to the hunter becoming the hunted.

In Season 2, the Mandalorian and the Child continue their journey, facing enemies and rallying allies as they make their way through a dangerous galaxy in the tumultuous era after the collapse of the Galactic Empire.

The series stars Pedro Pascal in the title role, alongside Gina Carano (‘Deadpool’) as Cara Dune, Carl Weathers (‘Predator’) as Greef Karga, and Giancarlo Esposito (‘Breaking Bad’) as Moff Gideon, who return for Season 2.

New faces this season include Temuera Morrison (‘Star Wars’), Katee Sackhoff (‘Battlestar Galactica’), Rosario Dawson (‘Luke Cage’), Timothy Olyphant  (‘Justified’), and Michael Biehn (‘Terminator’, ‘Aliens’). There have been a lot of rumours flying around about who these people may be playing, although star Gina Carano did say in a recent interview that “some of them are true, some are not true,” so we’ll have to wait and see!

“The new season is about introducing a larger story in the world,” adds show creator Jon Favreau in an interview with EW. “The stories become less isolated, yet each episode has its own flavour, and hopefully we’re bringing a lot more scope to the show. Everything gets bigger, the stakes get higher, but also the personal story between the Child and the Mandalorian develops in a way I think people will enjoy.”

Directors for the new season include Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, Carl Weathers, Peyton Reed and Robert Rodriguez. Showrunner Jon Favreau serves as executive producer along with Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson, with Karen Gilchrist serving as co-executive producer.

The Mandalorian‘ Season 2 premieres Friday, 30th October 2020 on Disney Plus.
