The CW’s ‘Walker’ Adds Genevieve Padalecki In Recurring Role
I’m not one to accuse a tv show of nepotism, but… (I joke). It has been announced Genevieve Padalecki, wife of star Jared Padalecki, has been cast in a recurring role on his new show ‘Walker‘, a reimagining of ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’, it has been announced.
Starring one half of ‘Supernatural’s Winchester brothers, Jared Padalecki, the “reimagining” of the 90s action series follows Cordell Walker (Padalecki), a man finding his way back to his family while investigating crime in the state’s most elite unit. The broken widower and father of two returns home to Austin after being undercover for two years for a high profile case, only to discover that there’s even more work to be done at home.
Genevieve Padalecki is set to play Emily, Walker’s strong, capable and generous late wife who is brave and focused on helping the disenfranchised. Appearing in flashback, Emily is a grounded and authentic hero in the Walker family.
This is, of course, not the first time the couple have worked together. They actually met on ‘Supernatural’ Season 4 where Genevieve had the recurring role as the demon Ruby. She previously starred on the ABC series ‘Wildfire’, and the 2009 series ‘FlashForward’, also for ABC.
In addition to the Padalecki’s, the cast also includes Lindsey Morgan (‘The 100’) as Walker’s female partner Micki, one of the only women in Texas Rangers’ history. Together, they are described as “the modern-day heroes our world needs, following their own moral code to fight for what’s right, regardless of the rules.”
Rounding out the cast is another ‘Supernatural’ vet and star of ‘The X-Files’ Mitch Pileggi, who plays Cordell’s father, Bonham Walker, a sturdy, conservative and tough as nails but a family man through and through; Coby Bell (‘The Gifted’) as Texas Ranger Captain Larry James, a trailblazer in his division, confident, sharp as a razor; Keegan Allen (‘Pretty Little Liars’) as Liam, Cordell’s gay, conservative, assistant DA younger brother; Molly Hagan (‘Truth Be Told’, ‘No Good Nick’, ‘Law & Order True Crime’) as Abeline Walker, Cordell’s smart, perceptive, and “unstoppable force of nature” mother; And Jeff Pierre (‘Once Upon a Time’, ‘The Rookie’) as Micki’s army medic boyfriend. Violet Brinson (‘Sharp Objects’) plays Cordell’s 16-year-old daughter Stella, with Kale Culley (‘The Romanoffs’, ‘NCIS’) as Arlo, Cordell’s 14-year-old son.
The drama is written by Anna Fricke (‘Wayward Pines’, ‘Being Human’, ‘Valor’) with Fricke, Padalecki, and Dan Lin (‘Lethal Weapon’) exec producing.
‘Walker‘ Season 1 is currently set to premiere January 2021 on The CW in the USA. No UK broadcaster yet, but we’ll let you know when we hear something.
