BBC One Sets October Premiere Date For ‘Roadkill’ Starring Hugh Laurie

BBC One has set an October UK premiere date for political thriller Roadkill, which sees Hugh Laurie lead an all-star cast in a series from ‘Collateral’ writer David Hare.

Peter Laurence (Laurie) is a self-made, forceful and charismatic politician positioned in the cabinet as Minister for Transport. Married with two daughters, and celebrating his win in a newspaper libel case, Peter is summoned to Downing Street to see the Prime Minister, Dawn Ellison (Helen McCrory – ‘Peaky Blinders’, ‘Penny Dreadful’) where she reveals she is looking to promote him to an office of state.

Meanwhile, as Peter celebrates, disgraced journalist Charmian Pepper (Sarah Greene – ‘Dublin Murders’, ‘Normal People’) is fired from the newspaper by editor Joe Lapidus (Pip Torrens – ‘Poldark’, ‘Preacher’) and proprietor Lady Roche (Patricia Hodge – ‘A Very English Scandal’, ‘Miranda’) after mysteriously changing her story in court, leading to Laurence’s success.

Reeling from her dismissal, she convinces the newspaper to send her to Washington to prove once and for all that she has a case against Peter, just as his own barrister Rochelle (Pippa Bennett-Warner – ‘Harlots’, ‘MotherFatherSon’) receives a mysterious phone call from an anonymous contact, also claiming to have information on the Laurence case.

However, a victorious Peter is soon bought back down to earth with a bump when his special advisor Duncan Knock (Iain De Caestecker – ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’) reveals an inmate in Shephill women’s prison is claiming to have a secret about Peter’s past that could affect his future…

With Peter’s enemies closing in on both his personal and professional secrets, will he be able to cope with the pressure?

The already impressive cast also includes Ophelia Lovibond (‘Elementary’, ‘W1A’), Saskia Reeves (‘Us’, ‘The Child in Time’), Katie Leung (‘Chimerica’, ‘Strangers’), Olivia Vinall (‘The Woman in White’, ‘Apple Tree Yard’), Shalom Brune-Franklin (‘Our Girl’, ‘Bad Mothers’), Millie Brady (‘The Last Kingdom’) Sidse Babett Knudsen (‘Borgen’, ‘Westworld’), Emma Cunniffe (‘Silent Witness’, ‘Unforgotten’), Gbemisola Ikumelo (‘Famalam’) and Danny Ashok (‘Deep Water’, ‘Capital’).

Alongside BBC Two’s thriller ‘Collateral’, playwright, screenwriter, director and producer David Hare has written several feature films, including ‘The Hours’ and ‘The Reader’ both of which won Oscars, plus widely-acclaimed plays including ‘Plenty’ and ‘Skylight’.

‘Roadkill’ is a 4X60’ series for BBC One and PBS Masterpiece. It is executive produced by creator David Hare, George Faber and Mark Pybus for The Forge, Lucy Richer for the BBC and Michael Keillor, and Rebecca Eaton for Masterpiece. It is directed by Michael Keillor (‘Line Of Duty’, ‘Strike’, ‘Chimerica’) and produced by Andy Litvin (‘The Trial’, ‘Hunger’, ‘Ginger & Rosa’).
