Netflix Releases First Look Photos Of ‘Bridgerton’ from Shonda Rhimes’s Shondaland, Premiering Christmas Day

Netflix released some “first look” images for Bridgerton, the first series from Shonda Rhimes’s Shondaland (‘Scandal’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’) since she signed her exclusive deal with the streaming service.

Inspired by Julia Quinn’s novels, ‘Bridgerton’ follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor – ‘Younger’, ‘Waterloo Road’), the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she makes her debut onto Regency London’s competitive marriage market. Hoping to follow in her parent’s footsteps and find a match sparked by true love, Daphne’s prospects initially seem to be unrivalled. But as her older brother begins to rule out her potential suitors, the high society scandal sheet written by the mysterious Lady Whistledown casts aspersions on Daphne. Enter the highly desirable and rebellious Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page – ‘For The People’, ‘Waterloo Road’), committed bachelor and the catch of the season for the debutantes’ mamas. Despite proclaiming that they want nothing the other has to offer, their attraction is undeniable and sparks fly as they find themselves engaged in an increasing battle of wits while navigating society’s expectations for their future.

The series also stars Golda Rosheuvel (‘Silent Witness’), Jonathan Bailey (‘W1A’, ‘Broadchurch’), Luke Newton (‘The Lodge’), Luke Thompson (‘Kiss Me First’, ‘In The Club’), Claudia Jessie (‘Defending the Guilty’, ‘Porters’), Nicola Coughlan (‘Derry Girls’, ‘Harlots’), Ruby Barker (‘Wolfblood’), Sabrina Bartlett (‘Victoria’, ‘Knightfall’), Ruth Gemmell (‘Deep State’, ‘Penny Dreadful’), Adjoa Andoh (‘Silent Witness’, ‘Liar’), Polly Walker (‘Pennyworth’, ‘Line Of Duty’), Bessie Carter (‘Beecham House’, ‘Howards End’), Harriet Cains (‘Marcella’), with the legendary Julie Andrews as the voice of Lady Whistledown.

‘Bridgerton’ is a romantic, scandalous, and quick-witted series that celebrates the timelessness of enduring friendships, families finding their way, and the search for a love that conquers all. The series is created by longtime Shonda Rhimes collaborator, Chris Van Dusen (‘Scandal’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘Private Practice’). Van Dusen exec produces alongside Shondaland’s Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers.

Bridgerton‘ Season 1 will premiere Christmas Day 2020 (25th December 2020) on Netflix UK and worldwide. You can set yourself a reminder on Netflix by clicking here.
