Allison Tolman & Nick Frost Join ‘Why Women Kill’ Season 2

CBS All Access has announced two of the people who are set to star in the 2nd Season of original anthology series Why Women Kill, as Allison Tolman and Nick Frost join the cast.

From ‘Desperate Housewives’ creator Marc Cherry, ‘Why Women Kill’ examines how the roles of women have changed over the decades, but how their reaction to betrayal… has not. The first season starring Lucy Liu, Ginnifer Goodwin and Kirby Howell-Baptiste, but as this is an anthology show, it’s all change for Season 2.

The second season of the dark comedy features a new ensemble cast and storylines set in 1949 that will explore what it means to be beautiful, the hidden truth behind the facades people present to the world, the effects of being ignored and overlooked by society, and finally, the lengths one woman will go in order to finally belong…

Allison Tolman will play Alma, a timid and awkward housewife, who remains optimistic in the face of the world’s cruelty. Alma yearns for a spot in the local garden club and to see her ungainly daughter married, but her life is disrupted once she learns of her husband’s secret hobby.

Tolman shot to fame when she was cast in a lead role in the first season of the hit crime dramedy ‘Fargo’, co-starring with Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman. For her work on the show, she was nominated for an Emmy and a Golden Globe and won the 2014 Critics’ Choice Award. More recently, she starred in the single-season ABC sci-fi thriller ‘Emergence’ and has also popped up on tv in ‘The Twilight Zone’, ‘Castle Rock’ and ‘Good Girls’, along with the films and films ‘Sisters Brothers’, and ‘FAM-I-LY’.

Nick Frost will play Bertram, Alma’s beloved husband who spends his days as a veterinarian putting sick and injured animals out of their misery. Always kind and good-humoured, Bertram has a secret hobby that is darker than his jovial nature lets on.

Beloved British actor/writer/director/producer Nick Frost rose to prominence alongside Simon Pegg for the duos work with Edgar Wright on the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy (Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz/The World’s End) and the tv series ‘Spaced’. Since then, he has starred on the tv series ‘Into the Badlands’ for AMC, ‘Sick Note’ for Sky One, and the Stephen Merchant film ‘Fighting with My Family’ amongst many, many other projects. You can next see him in the Amazon series ‘Truth Seekers’, which he also created and co-wrote, and launches 30th October 2020 on Amazon Prime. He is also due to star in new Joss Whedon series ‘The Nevers’, which will premiere on HBO and Sky Atlantic in 2021.

‘Why Women Kill’ is produced by Imagine Television Studios and CBS Studios. Creator Marc Cherry serves as executive producer alongside Imagine’s Brian Grazer and Samie Kim Falvey; Acme Productions’ Michael Hanel and Mindy Schultheis; Marc Webb and Francie Calfo.

Why Women Kill Season 2 will premiere in 2021 on CBS All Access (or Paramount+… as it will probably be called by then!) in the USA. Season 1 of the dark comedy aired on Alibi in the UK.
