As was rumoured a couple of months ago, HBO has officially announced Emmy-winning drama series ‘In Treatment‘ will return for a 4th Season, although things will look somewhat different. ‘Orange Is The New Black’ star Uzo Aduba will step across to the other side of the therapist’s couch as she takes over the lead role.
The multi-Emmy-winning Uzo Aduba will play the lead role of the therapist at the centre of the season, Dr. Brooke Lawrence. Much like the original show, the reimagining of the series brings a diverse trio of patients in session with the observant, empathetic therapist while she wrestles with her own issues in this half-hour drama series.
Aduba is probably best known for her role as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren in ‘Orange Is The New Black’, a character who was arguably someone more likely to be on the therapist’s couch than giving the advice, so this should be a nice change of pace! That role landed the actress two Emmy awards, and more recently, she picked up another Emmy for her portrayal of Shirley Chisholm in Hulu’s limited series, ‘Mrs. America’.
Based on the Israel series ‘BeTipul’, the original version of ‘In Treatment’ aired for three seasons from 2008–2010 and starred Gabriel Byrne in the lead as Dr. Paul Weston. The drama followed his weekly sessions with his patients, along with his own sessions with his therapist. Each season focused on a different set of patients allowing them to switch up the guest stars each year, featuring cast such as Melissa George, Blair Underwood, Alison Pill, John Mahoney and Debra Winger. There is no news yet on who might be the subjects of Dr. Brooke Lawrence’s therapeutic advice, but the cast for the new season will be announced in due course.
‘In Treatment’ is produced by HBO Entertainment, with exec producers Stephen Levinson, Mark Wahlberg, Hagai Levi, Jennifer Schuur, Joshua Allen and Melissa Bernstein. Joanne Toll and Noa Tishby serve as co-executive producers. The series is produced in association with Leverage, Closest to the Hole Productions and Sheleg.
‘In Treatment‘ Season 4 is due to begin filming this autumn under COVID-19 guidelines, with a debut scheduled for 2021 on HBO and HBO Max in the USA. Whilst not officially confirmed, it should fall under Sky’s overall deal with HBO, and air on Sky Atlantic in 2021 in the UK, but we’ll let you know when the officially announce something.
