First Trailer For Shondaland’s ‘Bridgerton’ Premiering Christmas Day On Netflix

by Dave Elliott

Netflix has released the first trailer for Bridgerton, the first series from Shonda Rhimes’s Shondaland (‘Scandal’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’) since she signed her exclusive deal with the streaming service.

From Shondaland and Creator Chris Van Dusen (‘Scandal’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’), ‘Bridgerton’ follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor – ‘Younger’, ‘Waterloo Road’), the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she makes her debut onto Regency London’s competitive marriage market. Hoping to follow in her parent’s footsteps and find a match sparked by true love, Daphne’s prospects initially seem to be unrivalled. But as her older brother begins to rule out her potential suitors, the high society scandal sheet written by the mysterious Lady Whistledown casts aspersions on Daphne. Enter the highly desirable and rebellious Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page – ‘For The People’, ‘Waterloo Road’), committed bachelor and the catch of the season for the debutantes’ mamas. Despite proclaiming that they want nothing the other has to offer, their attraction is undeniable and sparks fly as they find themselves engaged in an increasing battle of wits while navigating society’s expectations for their future.

The series also stars Jonathan Bailey (‘W1A’, ‘Broadchurch’) as Anthony Bridgerton, Nicola Coughlan (‘Derry Girls’, ‘Harlots’) as Penelope Featherington, Claudia Jessie (‘Defending the Guilty’, ‘Porters’) as Eloise Bridgerton, Ruby Barker (‘Wolfblood’) as Marina Thompson, Adjoa Andoh (‘Silent Witness’, ‘Liar’) as Lady Danbury, Golda Rosheuvel (‘Silent Witness’) as Queen Charlotte, Luke Thompson (‘Kiss Me First’, ‘In The Club’) as Benedict Bridgerton, Luke Newton (‘The Lodge’) as Colin Bridgerton, Ruby Stokes (‘Da Vinci’s Demons’, ‘Una’) as Francesca Bridgerton, Will Tilston (‘Goodbye Christopher Robin’) as Gregory Bridgerton, Florence Hunt (‘Cursed’) as Hyacinth Bridgerton, Ruth Gemmell (‘Deep State’, ‘Penny Dreadful’) as Lady Violet Bridgerton, Bessie Carter (‘Beecham House’ as Prudence Featherington, Harriet Cains (‘Marcella’) as Philipa Featherington, Polly Walker (‘Pennyworth’, ‘Line Of Duty’) as Lady Portia Featherington, Ben Miller (‘Death in Paradise’) as Lord Featherington, Sabrina Bartlett (‘Victoria’, ‘Knightfall’) as Siena Rosso, Martins Imhangbe as Will Mondrich, and Lorraine Ashbourne (‘The Crown’, ‘Unforgotten’) as Mrs. Varley, with the legendary Julie Andrews as the voice of Lady Whistledown.

‘Bridgerton’ is a romantic, scandalous, and quick-witted series that celebrates the timelessness of enduring friendships, families finding their way, and the search for a love that conquers all. The series is created by longtime Shonda Rhimes collaborator, Chris Van Dusen (‘Scandal’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘Private Practice’), inspired by Julia Quinn’s novels. Van Dusen exec produces alongside Shondaland’s Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers.

Bridgerton‘ Season 1 will premiere Christmas Day 2020 (25th December 2020) on Netflix UK and worldwide. You can set yourself a reminder on Netflix by clicking here.
