Get ready for more pre-Batman adventures, as STARZPLAY UK sets a February premiere date for Pennyworth Season 2.

The series follows Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon), a former British SAS soldier in his 20s, who forms a security company in 1960s London and goes to work with young billionaire Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge), who has not yet become Bruce Wayne’s father.

A year after the explosive events of last season, England finds itself embroiled in a devastating civil war, with the powerful, neo-fascist Raven Union, led by Lord Harwood (Jason Flemyng) threatening to control the entire country. North London remains one of the few resistance holdouts remaining. It’s here in the West End Neutral Zone, that we find Alfred Pennyworth.

After years in the British Army, his training with the SAS has taught him to be a cynical optimist – expecting the worst, but knowing that he can handle it. Now running The Delaney, a black-market Soho club that welcomes everyone, regardless of their politics, Alfred, with his SAS mates, Deon “Bazza” Bashford (Hainsley Lloyd Bennett) and Wallace “Daveboy” MacDougal (Ryan Fletcher), is now in search of a way out – before London, and his country, burns itself to the ground. And he’s got his eye on America.

Along with a possible upcoming change of country, the second season will also introduce a number of new faces, the most notable of which is Lucius Fox, played by Simon Manyonda (‘His Dark Materials’). Fox is a young American scientist, precise to the point of pedantry, deliberately calm, honest, and direct to a fault; he suffers no fools gladly. His friends would say he’s a man of conscience; his enemies would say he’s judgmental and dogmatic. An integral part of the DC universe, this marks his introduction to the Wayne family.

Also joining the cast is James Purefoy (‘Altered Carbon’, ‘The Following’) as Alfie’s former SAS Captain, Gulliver Troy. He is a charismatic, cultured brute and a powerful man of appetites – whether that be drink, women or danger; Jessica de Gouw (‘The Hunting’, ‘Gretel and Hansel’) as Melanie Troy, a military orphan, who became a woman of the world far too young. She is the wife of the dominating Gulliver, but with her wry intelligence and a sardonic sense of humour, she’s no submissive and gives as good as she gets; Edward Hogg (‘Silent Witness’, ‘Harlots’) takes the role of Colonel Salt, a would-be despot masquerading as an obedient civil servant, who is a calculating killer, whether by pen or sword; And Katie Browning as Jessye Romeo, an idealistic art student whose life is uprooted by civil war. She is described as “righteous, defiant and wonderfully naive.”

Returning cast includes Harriet Slater as Sandra Onslow, and Ramon Tikaram, who returns as Inspector Victor Aziz, and have both been upped to series regulars. They join Emma Paetz (‘Gentleman Jack’), Hainsley Lloyd Bennett (‘Eastenders’), Ryan Fletcher (‘Outlander’), Dorothy Atkinson (‘Mr. Turner’, ‘Topsy-Turvy’), and Polly Walker (‘Rome’, ‘Caprica’), with Jason Flemyng (‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’) and featuring multi-award-winning recording artist Paloma Faith.

Pennyworth‘ Season 2 premieres Sunday, 28th February 2020 on STARZPLAY UK.
