‘Titans’ Finds Its Barbara Gordon With Savannah Welch

Titans Season 3 has found their Barbara Gordon as the series announce Savannah Welch will be taking on the role.

The series follows Dick Grayson, aka the former Robin (Brenton Thwaites), who emerges from the shadows to lead a band of new heroes – including Starfire (Anna Diop), Raven (Teagan Croft), Beast Boy (Ryan Potter) and others. This group of young heroes as they come of age and find belonging.

Season 3 has our heroes heading to Gotham City and that will see them reunite with old friends and face new threats… One of those “old friends” is Barbara Gordon, played by Savannah Welch. Barbara has been through various stages in the comic books, but the version they are using on ‘Titans’ will have her serving as Gotham’s police commissioner. She took up the gig having been shot and paralyzed by the Joker during her crimefighting career as Batgirl. She is described as having “a combative relationship” with Bruce Wayne, and the return of her former love Dick Grayson, along with his merry(ish) band of heroes, only serves to complicate matters!

This will be the first major ongoing tv series for Savannah Welch, although she has appeared in films such as Terrence Malick’s ‘The Tree of Life’ and Richard Linklater’s Golden Globe and Oscar-winning ‘Boyhood’. Most recently, she guest-starred on an episode of History’s Navy SEAL drama ‘Six’ playing a Marine who lost a leg in combat. Welch is, herself, an amputee who lost her right leg after being hit during a vehicle accident in 2016. She went on to become an activist and advocate for the disabled community. She is also a member of the alt-country band The Trishas and host of the ‘Enough About Music’ podcast.

Alongside Welch, Thwaites, Diop, Croft, and Potter, Season 3 will also see Joshua Orpin return as Connor/Superboy, Conor Leslie as Donna Troy/Wondergirl, Joshua Orpin as Conner Kent/Superboy, Alan Ritchson as Hank Hall/Hawk and Minka Kelly as Dawn Granger/Dove. Also returning are Curran Walters’ Jason Todd, who morphs from Robin into his Red Hood persona following the events of Season 2, and Damaris Lewis as Starfire’s sister, Blackfire. Yet to be cast is Dr. Jonathan Crane aka Scarecrow, who will be an Arkham Asylum inmate who offers his services as a profiler and consultant for the GCPD.

Titans‘ Season 3 is currently filming. The series airs on HBO Max in the US, and Netflix in the UK.
