‘The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers’ Series Gets Trailer & March Premiere On Disney+

by Dave Elliott

The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, a new series based on the popular movie franchise, will premiere this March Disney+ has announced.

Set in present-day Minnesota, the Mighty Ducks have evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team. After 12-year-old Evan Morrow (Brady Noon – ‘Boardwalk Empire’) is unceremoniously cut from the Ducks, he and his mom, Alex (Lauren Graham – ‘Gilmore Girls’), set out to build their own team of misfits to challenge the cutthroat, win-at-all-costs culture of youth sports today. With the help of Gordon Bombay (returning star Emilio Estevez), they rediscover the joys of playing just for the love of the game.

Alongside Noon, Graham and Estevez, the series features a talented new team of up-and-coming young actors including Maxwell Simkins, Swayam Bhatia, Luke Islam, Kiefer O’Reilly, Taegen Burns, Bella Higginbotham, and DJ Watts.

‘The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers’ is produced by ABC Signature, a part of Disney Television Studios. Steve Brill, the original creator, writer and executive producer of all three films, which spawned an NHL franchise, is back as co-creator and executive producer of the new series. Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa (‘The King of Queens’, ’13 Going On 30′) are co-creators and will serve as executive producers and showrunners. Michael Spiller serves as executive producer/director on the series, with James Griffiths serving as director/EP on the Pilot. Emilio Estevez is an executive producer and Lauren Graham is co-executive producer. George Heller and Brad Petrigala of Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Jon Avnet and Jordan Kerner also serve as non-writing executive producers.

Disney also announced today the full line up for their “mature content” channel STAR, which will launch in the UK on Disney+ from Tuesday, 23rd February 2021. This will add a heap of new and classic tv-series and films including ABC’s smash hit Big Sky, ‘Love, Simon’ followup series ‘Love, Victor‘, and one season Marvel show, ‘Helstrom‘. It will also add parental controls, allowing you to lock that section away from young eyes.

UK customers can currently subscribe to Disney+ for £5.99 per month, or £59.99 annually (annual price available at most retailers). Full details on how to subscribe available on Disneyplus.com. From 23 February, Disney+ will cost £7.99, or £79.90 annually.
