‘Pacific Rim: The Black’: Anime Series Gets Teaser Trailer & March Premiere Date On Netflix

by Dave Elliott

Netflix has released a teaser trailer and announced a March premiere date for new anime series Pacific Rim: The Black‘.

Returning to the epic battle of Kaiju and Jaegers, this original anime series will expand upon the story of the first two live-action movies and follow two siblings – an idealistic teenage boy and his naïve younger sister – who are forced to pilot an abandoned Jaeger across a hostile landscape in a desperate attempt to find their missing parents. After Kaiju ravage Australia, the two siblings use the Jaeger to search, whilst encountering new creatures, seedy characters and chance allies.

The series follows on from Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 movie ‘Pacific Rim’ which starred Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba, along with the 2018 sequel, ‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’, directed by Steven S. DeKnight starring John Boyega and Scott Eastwood. Other than the brief plot synopsis above, details on the anime are a little thin, but at least the trailer does give you a taste of what’s to come.

The series comes from Legendary Entertainment (‘Kong: Skull Island’, ‘Pokemon: Detective Pikachu’), with Craig Kyle (‘Thor: Ragnarok’) and Greg Johnson (‘X-Men: Evolution’) serving as co-showrunners. Polygon Pictures (‘Big Hero 6: The Series’, ‘Transformers: Robots in Disguise’, ‘Star Wars Resistance’) handle the animation.

Pacific Rim: The Black‘ premieres Thursday, 4th March 2021 on Netflix UK and worldwide.
