‘Pose’ To End With 3rd & Final Season

Pose is set to end, as Ryan Murphy, exec producer and co-creator of the groundbreaking US drama, announces the upcoming 3rd Season will wrap the story they wanted to tell.

The universally-acclaimed hit drama from Ryan Murphy, which is arguably one of the most groundbreaking series ever produced, begins following the New York’s transgender-Ball culture of the late 1980’s and the LGBTQ community during the growing HIV crisis. The series tells the story of a black transgender woman, Blanca Rodriguez (Mj Rodriguez), who worked at a nail salon by day and served as a member of the House of Abundance by night. After receiving a life-changing medical diagnosis, Blanca became determined to open her own house.

In this final season, it’s now 1994 and ballroom feels like a distant memory for Blanca who struggles to balance being a mother with being a present partner to her new love, and her latest role as a nurse’s aide. Meanwhile, as AIDS becomes the leading cause of death for Americans ages 25 to 44, Pray Tell (Billy Porter) contends with unexpected health burdens. Elsewhere, the emergence of a vicious new upstart house forces the House of Evangelista members to contend with their legacy.

Murphy, who co-created the series with Brad Falchuk and Steven Canals, made this announcement during an appearance earlier today. “From the very beginning when Steven Canals and I sat down to hear his vision and ideas for the show, it has been a passion project. To go from the beginning of my career in the late 90s when it was nearly impossible to get an LGBTQ character on television to Pose – which will go down in history for having the largest LGBTQ cast of all time – is a truly full-circle moment for me,” he commented. “This show made history behind and in front of the camera, and its legacy runs deep. I’m so proud of my fellow creators Steven Canals and Brad Falchuk, and also to exec producer/writer/director Janet Mock who made such an indelible mark with her personal and heartfelt work. Thanks also to Our Lady J for her incredible work as a producer, writer and actress on the show. We got to tell the exact story we wanted, as we wanted to tell it, and I’m incredibly honoured and grateful. Pose’s story may end in 1996, but its impact will go on forever.”

Production on the 3rd Season was delayed due to the pandemic, however, the cast and crew are back filming at the moment. Shooting during a pandemic is hard enough at the best of times, but when you have a show which involves huge ballroom scenes, that really starts to complicate matters. However, they have managed to make it through following safety guidelines.

The series stars Mj Rodriguez as Blanca, Dominique Jackson as Elektra, Indya Moore as Angel, Ryan Jamaal Swain as Damon, Hailie Sahar as Lulu, Angel Bismark Curiel as Lil Papi, Dyllon Burnside as Ricky, Sandra Bernhard as Judy and Billy Porter as Pray Tell.

Pose3rd and final season is set to air May 2, 2021 at 10pm on FX in the US. There is no UK premiere date yet, but drama should air on BBC Two at some point after that under their current carriage deal for FX content. It is also possible the series may pop up on STAR on Disney+ at some point in the future, but we’ll let you know if that happens.
