‘Star Trek: Picard’ Season 2 Announces The Return Of John De Lancie as Q

by Dave Elliott

During a video for Star Trek’s First Contact Day virtual global panels, it was announced John de Lancie would once again be saying “Bonjour, mon capitaine!” as he reprises his amazing role as Q in Star Trek: Picard Season 2.

The series features Patrick Stewart reprising as Jean-Luc Picard, which he played for seven seasons on ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’, and follows this iconic character into the next chapter of his life. The first season saw the now-retired Admiral delve into a mystery surrounding a young woman who turns up at his home in France who seems to have some connection to his old friend Lieutenant Commander Data. Whilst the panel above doesn’t give much away about the second season, the little teaser trailer (which you can find here), does seem to imply it will be playing around in time… Which would make sense, given that the omnipotent, immortal, dimension-toying Q is involved.

John de Lancie made a surprise appearance during the panel (above), confirming that he will appear in season two as his iconic character. The free First Contact Day virtual panels will be available to view on-demand on Paramount+’s YouTube Channel and on Paramount+ in the U.S., following their initial airing on StarTrek.com/FirstContact today from 12:00-2:45 PM, PT/3:00-5:45 PM, ET.

Alongside Patrick Stewart and John de Lancie, Season 2 will see the return of Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Evan Evagora, Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, Jeri Ryan, Orla Brady and… interestingly… Brent Spiner.

The series is produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. For Season 2, Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, Terry Matalas, Michael Chabon, Doug Aarniokoski, Dylan Massin, Patrick Stewart, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth serve as executive producers; Aaron Baiers (Secret Hideout) and Kirsten Beyer serve as co-executive producers. Akiva Goldsman and Terry Matalas serve as co-showrunners for season two.

Star Trek: Picard‘ Season 2 will premiere in 2022 on Paramount+ in the U.S. and is distributed on Amazon Prime Video in more than 200 countries and territories, including the UK. In Canada, airs on CTV Sci-Fi Channel and streams on Crave.
