‘The Walking Dead’ 11th & Final Season Part 1 To Premiere In August 2021

Following the airing of the hugely anticipated “Here’s Negan” episode last night on AMC in the USA (tonight on FOX UK), the broadcaster announced the 11th and final season of The Walking Dead will begin in August 2021.

Whilst the characters on the show have spent the last ten seasons dealing with a zombie pandemic, the cast and crew behind the drama have spent the last 12 months trying to work around the real-life pandemic of COVID-19. The original Season 10 finale episode was delayed from its normal run in early 2020, eventually airing in October 2020. It was then announced that rather than try to leap straight into filming the huge 11th Season story in the middle of the pandemic, they would extend Season 10 by 6 episodes, which would allow them to focus on smaller, character-driven, stories, that would be easier to film under the current conditions (concluding with “Here’s Negan”). The final 11th Season was then extended to 24 episodes, which is split into three parts, with part one premiering in August 2021, part two in early 2022, and part three in late 2022.

“Coming off of the six additional episodes for Season 10, which focused on smaller, character-driven stories, we’re excited to kick off Season 11 bigger than ever,” commented showrunner and exec producer Angela Kang. “The stakes will be high – we’ll see more zombies, tons of action, intriguing new stories, never-before-seen locations and our groups together in one community for the first time, trying to rebuild what the Whisperers took from them.”

This, of course, is not the last we’ll see of ‘The Walking Dead’ universe. ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ is still ongoing, and there is the 2nd and final season of ‘The Walking Dead: World Beyond’ limited series coming later this year. Following that, we have fan favourites Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) continuing in a new spin-off series that will premiere in 2023, run by TWD showrunner Angela Kang, who co-created the series with TWD overlord, Scott M. Gimple. AMC is also working with Gimple to develop a new ‘Tales of the Walking Dead’ series, an episodic anthology with individual episodes or arcs of episodes focused on new or existing characters, backstories or other stand-alone experiences. There are also the much anticipated ‘Rick Grimes’ movies to land at some point too.

The Walking Dead‘ Season 11a premieres Sunday, August 22, 2021 on AMC in the USA, and (not yet officially confirmed), should land Monday, 23rd August 2021 at 9pm on FOX UK.
