Rose Matafeo Comedy ‘Starstruck’ Lands April Premiere On BBC Three

Starstruck’, a brand new comedy co-written by and starring comedian Rose Matafeo has landed an April premiere date on BBC Three it has been announced.

‘Starstruck’ follows Jessie (Matafeo), a millennial living in East London juggling two dead-end jobs and navigating the awkward morning-after-the-night-before when she discovers the complications of accidentally sleeping with famous film star Tom, played by Nikesh Patel (‘Four Weddings And A Funeral’, ‘Man Like Mobeen’).

A drunken New Year’s eve hook-up becomes far more complicated for Jessie and Tom when she discovers her one-night stand is actually an international film star. What she thought would become an amusing anecdote soon turns into something more, as the couple realise they can’t keep away from each other.

Jessie is working multiple jobs to afford her overpriced flat she shares with her best friend, Kate (Emma Sidi – ‘Pls Like’, ‘Stath Lets Flats’) and her world couldn’t be further from Tom’s. Despite her doubts and his fame, their connection brings them together as they try to navigate a possible relationship under less than ordinary circumstances.

The cast also includes Sindhu Vee (‘Live at the Apollo’, ‘Mock The Week’), Al Roberts (‘Stath Lets Flats’), Jon Pointing (‘Plebs’), Joe Barnes (‘The Now Show’), Nic Sampson (‘Baby Done’), Lola Rose Maxwell (‘Rude Tube’), Abraham Popoola (‘The Great’), and Ambreen Razia (‘This Way Up’). Minnie Driver (‘Good Will Hunting’, ‘Will & Grace’, ‘Speechless’) features in a guest role.

The comedy is co-written by Rose Matafeo alongside fellow New Zealand comedian/writer Alice Snedden. The series will broadcast first on BBC Three then BBC One in the UK, with HBO Max as the broadcast partner for the series in the USA, while the show has also been picked up by ABC to air in Australia, and TVNZ in New Zealand.

‘Starstruck’ is directed by Karen Maine (SXSW Award-winning ‘Yes God Yes’), and was commissioned by Shane Allen, Controller Comedy Commissioning at the BBC and Fiona Campbell, Controller of BBC Three. Executive Producers are Rose Matafeo, Jon Thoday, Richard Allen-Turner and Rob Aslett. Toby Welch acts as series producer. Gregor Sharp is the Commissioning Editor for the BBC, and Jeniffer Kim is SVP of International Content for HBO Max.

Starstruck’ Season 1 premieres Sunday, 25th April 2021 on BBC Three in the UK with all episodes available as a boxset.
