‘Dexter’ Revival Gets A Little Teaser Trailer

by Dave Elliott

US network Showtime has released a little teaser trailer for their upcoming Dexter revival series, along with announcing the drama will return in the USA this “Fall” (aka Autumn to us Brits).

The exact plot details on the 10-episode limited series are a bit sparse, but we do know it will see Michael C. Hall returning as everyone’s favourite serial killer with a code, Dexter Morgan. We also know that it’ll pick up around 10 years after the (not that well-received…) finale, and takes place in a fictional small town in Upstate New York called Iron Lake.

Joining Hall in the series are the legendary Clancy Brown (‘Highlander’, ‘Sleepy Hollow’, ‘Billions’) as Kurt Caldwell, who is lined up as the main antagonist in the series. Caldwell was born and raised in the town of Iron Lake. In fact, some consider him the unofficial mayor of their small town. He’s realized the American dream by going from driving big rigs, just like his father did, to now owning several trucks and the local truck stop. Powerful, generous, loved by everyone – he’s a true man of the people. If he’s got your back, consider yourself blessed. But should you cross Kurt, or hurt anyone that he cares for… God help you.

Other cast includes Jamie Chung (‘Lovecraft Country’, ‘The Gifted’) as a famous LA true-crime podcaster who finds herself caught up in the central mystery; Julia Jones (‘The Mandalorian’, ‘Goliath’) as Angela Bishop, the first Native American Chief of Police in the town; Johnny Sequoyah (‘Believe’) as Audrey, Bishop’s brash and opinionated teenage daughter; Alano Miller (Sylvie’s Love) as Logan, a sergeant for the Iron Lake Police Department and the assistant wrestling coach for the local high school;  David Magidoff (‘The Morning Show’) as Teddy, a new cop in Iron Lake PD, who is good-natured, quirky, hardworking, eager to please, and dependable; And Jack Alcott (‘The Good Lord Bird’) as Randall, someone with whom Dexter has a “meaningful encounter”.

For those of you trying to remember where the show ended, Dexter had faked his death and was living in Oregon working for a lumber company with a new name and identity. His girlfriend Hannah (Yvonne Strahovski) and young son Harrison had been sent to live in Argentina for safety. Hannah sees a report of Dexter’s death, so assumes he is dead. His sister Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) had been shot and killed by serial killer Oliver Saxon (Darri Ingolfsson), so it seems unlikely she will be returning unless it’s in some sort of flashback.

‘Dexter‘ is produced by Showtime with showrunner Clyde Phillips returning behind the camera and exec producing alongside Michael C. Hall, John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Bill Carraro and Scott Reynolds.

The Dexter limited series will premiere on Showtime in the USA in Fall 2021. Whilst not confirmed, the series should fall under Sky’s overall deal with Showtime, so may air around the same time in the UK on Sky Atlantic, but we’ll let you know when there is an official confirmation.
