‘Titans’ Finds Its Scarecrow In Vincent Kartheiser

Titans has cast a major Batman villain, as the DC Comics series announces former ‘Mad Men’ and ‘Angel’ star Vincent Kartheiser will play Dr. Jonathan Crane, aka Scarecrow.

‘Titans’ follows Dick Grayson, aka the former Robin (Brenton Thwaites), who emerges from the shadows as Nightwing to lead a band of heroes – including Starfire (Anna Diop), Raven (Teagan Croft), Beast Boy (Ryan Potter) and others. The story follows this group of young heroes as they come of age and find belonging.

Scarecrow is one of the more familiar of Batman’s villains, having popped up numerous times in animated series, and twice in live-action before. On tv, a version of the character popped up in ‘Gotham’, played by both Charlie Tahan and David W. Thompson, and in film on Chris Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy, portrayed by Cillian Murphy.

Vincent Kartheiser probably first popped up on most of our reader’s radar playing Connor in the series ‘Angel’. He then went on to star in the critically acclaimed ‘Mad Men’, comedy-drama ‘Casual’, Hulu series ‘The Path’, short-lived legal drama ‘Proven Innocent’, and most recently, Sky drama ‘Das Boot’.

As I’m sure many of you know, Dr. Jonathan Crane was a professor of psychology who became obsessed with fears and phobias. He uses his own experimental fear toxin to terrify his victims and wears a sack-like mask, giving him the moniker Scarecrow. Created by Batman’s originators, Bill Finger and Bob Kane, back in 1941, he is one of the oldest adversaries of The Dark Knight.

Titans’ Season 3 has our heroes heading to Gotham City and will see them reunite with old friends and face new threats… This version of Dr. Jonathan Crane, aka Scarecrow, will be an Arkham Asylum inmate who offers his services as a profiler and consultant for the GCPD. He joined a number of other new characters this season which includes Savannah Welch (The Tree of Life’, ‘Boyhood’) as Barbara Gordon, who is Gotham’s police commissioner, and Jay Lycurgo (‘I May Destroy You’, ‘Doctors’) as Robin #3, Tim Drake.

Season 3 will also see Joshua Orpin return as Connor/Superboy, Conor Leslie as Donna Troy/Wondergirl, Joshua Orpin as Conner Kent/Superboy, Alan Ritchson as Hank Hall/Hawk and Minka Kelly as Dawn Granger/Dove. Also returning are Curran Walters’ as Jason Todd, who morphs from Robin #2 into his Red Hood persona following the events of Season 2, and Damaris Lewis as Starfire’s sister, Blackfire.

Titans‘ Season 3 is currently filming. The series airs on HBO Max in the US, and Netflix in the UK.
