Team Flash is set to lose two of its original cast members when it returns for Season 8, as The Flash reveals both Tom Cavanagh, aka the many versions of Harrison Wells, and Carlos Valdes, aka Cisco Ramon, will be leaving the show as series regulars.

“Tom and Carlos have been an integral part of our show for seven seasons, and will be greatly missed,” commented exec producer/showrunner Eric Wallace to Deadline, who broke the news. “Both are incredible talents who created beloved characters that fans and audiences around the world have come to love. Which is why we are happily keeping the door open for return appearances.”

Cavanagh began on the series as “Harrison Wells”, who actually turned out to be Eobard Thawne, aka Reverse-Flash, wearing a copy of Wells’ body. Once that plotline was resolved, they introduced various versions of Wells from across the multiverse, allowing them to kill him off more times than Kenny in ‘South Park’, only to come back as a different version of the character in the next season. It was originally planned for Cavanagh to leave at the end of Season 6 but, due to the pandemic, he came back for the start of Season 7 to finish off his story arc.

Valdes has played Cisco from the first episode, although the character has been through a multitude of changes. Most notably gaining superpowers and becoming the hero Vibe. He later chose to give up those powers, although he remained part of Team Flash due to his engineering genius. Thankfully, the team should still have Brandon McKnight’s Chester P. Runk to help plug the gap, who joined Team Flash in the 7th Season.

As with most of The CW shows, ‘The Flash’ was renewed for Season 8 earlier this year. At the moment, Grant Gustin is the only actor officially contracted for Season 8, however, deals are expected to be worked out for the rest of the remaining cast.

It was also announced today that Season 7, which features the series 150 episode, will include a family reunion, as Jessica Parker Kennedy is set to return for a few episodes as Nora West-Allen (aka XS). They will also be introducing another speedster from the comics, with Jordan Fisher (‘To All the Boys 2’) as Bart Allen. However, in a slight change from the comic book version, Bart will actually be Barry and Iris’ son, rather than grandson.

The Flash‘ Season 7, along with ‘Supergirl‘ Season 6 and ‘Legends Of Tomorrow’ Season 6 are all currently scheduled to return to Sky One in the UK in June 2021 (exact day/time TBC).
