UKTV’s Dave Order Set Of New Comedy Panel Shows Featuring David Mitchell, Richard Ayoade & Tom Allen

UKTV’s Dave has ordered a stack of comedy entertainment shows, hosted by some of Britains top comedians including David Mitchell, Richard Ayoade & Tom Allen the broadcaster has announced.

‘Outsiders’ sees David Mitchell challenge a returning cast of three pairs of comedians to prove they’ve got the mettle and skills to thrive in the great outdoors. The competing comedians will be Ed Gamble, Jamali Maddix, Jessica Knappett, Kerry Godliman, Lou Sanders and Toussaint Douglass. Produced by Renegade Pictures.

“Civilisation is clearly crumbling so it’s high time we worked out whether we can cope without it,” commented Mitchell. “And if you can think of a better way of doing that than making six comedians learn survival skills, then you weren’t involved in the development process of this programme.”

‘Question Team’ features Richard Ayoade as host of the comedy quiz show that sets out to re-write the panel show rulebook by making its players set the questions. Each episode three comic guests must provide their own unique, personally-themed round for Ayoade and their fellow contestants to take part in. Produced by Interstellar Television.

“I have agreed to be in this show and, for now at least, it looks like it’s going ahead,” helpfully adds Richard Ayoade… in possibly the most Richard Ayoade way possible…

‘The Island’ is hosted by Tom Allen and sees four comics compete to make their own personal dream desert island the best one. Each week, Allen will put these four islands, and their leaders to the test – who’s got the best house band? How do you even judge that? And you may think you want your island’s only drink to be Fanta Limon, but what happens when it attracts that swarm of angry bees you chose last week? Well, Kemah Bob and Jason Forbes will be on hand as they bring ‘live’ reports from the islands, to make sure nothing is missed.

“At a time when so many of us have fantasised about living on an island far away from the people around us, I couldn’t be more excited to be hosting this fun, original show whilst putting comics through their paces to demonstrate that utopia is a very difficult thing to achieve,” said Allen. “I’m also delighted to be working alongside the hilarious comic talents of Kemah Bob and Jason Forbes who I’ve wanted to work with for years – it’s going to be a lot of fun!”

Lastly, ‘British As Folk’ features Fern Brady, Darren Harriot and Ivo Graham travelling across the nation discovering and interrogating the stereotypes and traditions that make up British life today, in the process creating their very own ‘brutally honest’ guide to Britain. Produced by STV.

“We’ve been using the last twelve months to develop the next wave of unique and innovative comedy formats,” commented Richard Watsham, UKTV director of commissioning. “We’re certainly not content to dine out on last year’s BAFTA success in this category. Instead, we want to make sure that we have a number of strong shows coming through, to keep pushing the boundaries in this space and to join Mel Giedroyc: Unforgivable which launched successfully earlier in the year.”

In addition to these new shows, later this year will see the return of ‘Comedians Giving Lectures’ for Seasons 2 and 3, hosted by Sara Pascoe, and a new run of ‘Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled’, now in its 6th Season. Next month, Samson Kayo’s scripted comedy ‘Sliced’ and BAFTA-nominated ‘Big Zuu’s Big Eats’ will both return for their 2nd Seasons.
