FOX Renews ‘The Resident’, ‘9-1-1’, ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’

In possibly one of the least surprising renewal announcements this season, FOX has handed a 5th Season to The Resident, along with renewing 9-1-1 for Season 5, and 9-1-1: Lone Star for Season 3.

‘The Resident’ follows a group of doctors at Chastain Memorial Hospital, as they face personal and professional challenges on a daily basis. The series focuses on the lives and duties of staff members but also delves into the bureaucratic practices of the hospital industry.

Matt Czuchry (‘Gilmore Girls’, ‘The Good Wife’) leads the cast as Dr Conrad Hawkins, alongside Emily VanCamp (MCU’s Sharon Carter), Manish Dayal (‘Halt and Catch Fire’), Moran Atias (’24: Legacy’), Merrin Dungey (‘Big Little Lies’) and Shaunette Renée Wilson (‘Billions’) with Melina Kanakaredes (‘CSI: NY’, ‘Providence’) and Bruce Greenwood (‘The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story’, ‘Mad Men’). One person who you’ll be seeing less of next season is Morris Chestnut’s Dr. Cain. The actor has landed a lead role on Fox’s upcoming family drama ‘Our Kind of People’, however, he is set to occasionally recur in the halls of Chastain Memorial.

‘9-1-1’ and ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ explore the high-pressure experiences of first responders, including police officers, firefighters and dispatchers, who are thrust into the most frightening, shocking and heart-stopping situations in both LA and Texas. These emergency responders must try to balance saving those who are at their most vulnerable with solving the problems in their own lives. The show draws from real-life, high-pressure experiences of first responders who regularly face heart-stopping situations that are often unpredictable, intense and uplifting at the same time.

The series are created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, with and Tim Minear joining them for 9-1-1: Lone Star’. ‘9-1-1’ stars Angela Bassett (‘American Horror Story’), Peter Krause (‘Six Feet Under’), Oliver Stark (‘Into The Badlands’), Aisha Hinds (‘Under the Dome’), Kenneth Choi (‘The People v. O.J.’), Ryan Guzman (‘Pretty Little Liars’), Rockmond Dunbar (‘Prison Break’) and Jennifer Love Hewitt (‘Criminal Minds’). ‘9-1-1: Lone Star‘ stars Rob Lowe (‘The West Wing’), Gina Torres (‘Suits’), Brian Michael Smith (‘The L Word: Generation Q’), Ronen Rubinstein (‘Orange Is The New Black’), Sierra McClain (‘Empire’), Julian Works and Jim Parrack (‘True Blood’).

Both ‘9-1-1’ and ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ have both been sat at the top of FOX’s ratings this year, so there was little doubt they were going to get handed renewals. ‘The Resident’ was a little further down the list, but still was pretty much a cert for pick up too.

The Resident‘, ‘9-1-1‘ and ‘9-1-1: Lone Star‘ all air on Sky Witness in the UK.
