After months of rumours, Marvel has confirmed ‘Star Wars’ actor Oscar Isaac will be taking the lead role in Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series ‘Moon Knight‘.
The Marvel Studios original series for Disney+ centres on the character Marc Spector aka Moon Knight, a complex vigilante who suffers from a dissociative identity disorder. These multiple identities who live inside him are distinct characters in the series and will appear against a backdrop of Egyptian iconography.
‘Moon Knight’ was created by Doug Moench & Don Perlin and first appeared in the 1975 comic Werewolf by Night. In the comic version, Marc Spector is an ex-CIA agent who finds himself working as a mercenary in Eygpt for a terrorist named Bushman. When the pair stumble across an archaeological dig full of valuables, Bushman turns on Spector and leaves him for dead. Crawling to a nearby ancient tomb, Spector is saved by the Egyptian deity Khonshu. After smashing Bushman’s operations, he returns to New York, creating the costumed hero, Moon Knight aka “The Fist of Khonshu”. To distance himself from his past, Spector invents two new identities: millionaire Steven Grant and cab driver Jake Lockley. However, he finds himself struggling with those multiple personalities and his amoral inclinations.
Oscar Isaac is, of course, a familiar face to Disney, having previously starred as the X-Wing pilot Poe Dameron in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. He is next due to appear as Duke Leto Atreides in Denis Villeneuve’s much anticipated ‘Dune’ movie, along with the upcoming HBO adaptation of ‘Scenes From a Marriage’ opposite Jessica Chastain.
Marvel made the announcement on social media with the following Tweet:

‘Moon Knight‘ is directed by Mohamed Diab (‘Clash’) and joins the string of other Marvel projects for Disney+. We’ve already had ‘WandaVision’ and ‘The Falcon and Winter Soldier‘. Next is ‘Loki’ which arrives Wednesday, 9th of June 2021. That will be followed by the alt-universe animated series ‘What If…?’ in Summer 2021, and the live-action shows ‘Ms. Marvel’ and ‘Hawkeye’ in late 2021. ‘She-Hulk’ starring the brilliant Tatiana Maslany, is set to land in 2022, followed (in no particular order) by ‘Secret Invasion’, ‘Ironheart’, ‘Armor Wars’, and a currently untitled series set in Wakanda.
‘Moon Knight‘ is expected to land at some point in 2022, but if you want to keep track of this show you can add it via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
