‘Bridgerton’ has added a new face for Season 2 as Netflix and Shondaland announce Rupert Evans (‘The Man in High Castle’, ‘Charmed’) will join the series as Edmund Bridgerton.

Based on Julia Quinn’s best-selling series of novels, ‘Bridgerton’, is set in the sexy, lavish and competitive world of Regency London high society.  From the glittering ballrooms of Mayfair to the aristocratic palaces of Park Lane and beyond, the series unveils a seductive, sumptuous world replete with intricate rules and dramatic power struggles, where no one is truly ever on steady ground.  At the heart of the show is the powerful Bridgerton family.  Comprised of eight close-knit siblings, this funny, witty, daring and clever group must navigate the upper ten thousand’s marriage mart in search of romance, adventure and love.

Evans’ Edmund is a loving and devoted husband, whose true love match with Violet Bridgerton gave them eight perfect children. He’s also an endlessly patient and kind father, who takes special pride in guiding his eldest son Anthony through life.

Whilst season one of the drama focused on Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor – ‘Younger’, ‘Waterloo Road’), the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family, the second season follows the plot of the second novel, ‘The Viscount Who Loved Me’, and is based around Anthony (Jonathan Bailey – ‘Broadchurch’, ‘W1A’), the eldest Bridgerton sibling and dutiful head of the family since assuming his late father’s title of Viscount… Given that fact, I would assume Evans role is in some form of flashback, what with the character being somewhat on the dead side of things in the current timeline…

Rupert Evans is internationally recognised for his film, television and theatre work in a wide range of acclaimed projects. He took on the leading role of Frank Frink in Amazon’s hugely successful ‘The Man in High Castle’ alongside Rufus Sewell and Alexa Davalos, and can currently be seen in The CW’s reboot of ‘Charmed’ in the series-regular role of Harry.

The series is created by longtime Shonda Rhimes collaborator, Chris Van Dusen (‘Scandal’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘Private Practice’), inspired by Julia Quinn’s novels. Van Dusen exec produces alongside Shondaland’s Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers.
