Netflix has picked up the global rights to ‘Code 8 Part II’, the sequel to the sci-fi film starring Robbie Amell and Stephen Amell.
The original ‘Code 8’ took place in a world where 4% of the population is born with varying supernatural abilities, but instead of being superheroes, they face discrimination and live in poverty. It introduced Connor Reed (Robbie Amell), a powerful young man struggling to pay for his ailing mother’s medical treatment. To earn money, he joined a lucrative criminal world led by Garrett (Stephen Amell), who taught him how to sharpen his powers to execute a series of crimes.
Heading into ‘Code 8 Part II’, after witnessing the murder of her brother and subsequent cover-up, a teenage girl with abnormal abilities seeks the help of Connor, now an ex-con, and his former partner-in-crime, Garrett. Together, they face a unit of corrupt police officers who deploy advanced robotic technology to prevent themselves from being exposed.
Netflix has acquired the global rights to the Canadian sci-fi sequel from Collective Pictures. Jeff Chan returns as director, with Stephen and Robbie reprising their roles from the first film. Chan also writes the film alongside Chris Paré, Sherren Lee and Jesse LaVercombe. Chan, Paré, Robbie Amell, Stephen Amell produce the flick, with XYZ Films exec producing. Collective Pictures serve as the production company.
‘Code 8 Part II’ will shoot in Canada later this year and be released globally by Netflix. You can find the first movie on Netflix UK right now.
