Jonny Lee Miller Joins ‘The Crown’ Season 5 As John Major

Jonny Lee Miller has signed up to The Crown, as Netflix announce the former ‘Elementary’ star will play Prime Minister John Major in the upcoming 5th Season.

‘The Crown’ tells the inside story of two of the most famous addresses in the world – Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street – and the intrigues, love lives and machinations behind the great events that shaped the second half of the 20th century.

The most recent 4th Season took us through the 80s, with the rise and fall of Margaret Thatcher and the turbulent relationship between Prince Charles and Princess Diana. The 5th Season, which begins shooting next month, will head into the 90s, likely taking us through the seven years of John Major’s premiership. Major served as Chancellor of the Exchequer and Foreign Secretary under Margaret Thatcher, before taking the top spot as PM in 1990, which he held until 1997 when he was beaten by Tony Blair’s New Labour. His tenure included events such as the first Gulf War, the Bosnian War, the end of apartheid in South Africa, the start of the Northern Ireland peace process, and the privatisation of British Rail. This season should also feature that controversial bombshell interview between Martin Bashir and Princess Diana…

Jonny Lee Miller spent the last few years playing Sherlock Holmes in the CBS crime drama ‘Elementary’. He is also well known for his role as “Sick Boy” in the ‘Trainspotting’ films. He has recently been filming the upcoming movie ‘Alice’, alongside Keke Palmer, Common, Gaius Charles, and Alicia Witt.

As happens every two seasons on ‘The Crown’, we will be getting an all-new cast for the 5th and final 6th Seasons. Imelda Staunton (the ‘Harry Potter’ films) takes the role of Queen Elizabeth II, with Jonathan Pryce (‘Game of Thrones’) as Prince Philip. Lesley Manville (‘Save Me Too’, ‘Harlots’) is set to play Princess Margaret, with Elizabeth Debicki (‘The Night Manager’, ‘Tenet’) as Princess Diana. Whilst not yet confirmed, the rumours are that Dominic West (‘The Affair’, ‘Brassic’) will take on the role of Prince Charles.

The Crown‘ Seasons 1 to 4 can be found on Netflix worldwide.
