Marvel’s ‘What If…?’ Gets Trailer, Poster & August Premiere On Disney+

by Dave Elliott

Following ‘WandaVision’, ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ and ‘Loki’, Marvel gets animated with a new MCU series that asks the question What If…?, coming this August to Disney+.

‘What If…?’ reimagines famous events from films in the MCU. Creating a multiverse of infinite possibilities, featuring features fan-favourite characters, including Peggy Carter, T’Challa, Doctor Strange, Killmonger, Thor and more.

As fans will likely know, the next phase of the MCU seems to be heading into a multiverse, with various versions of characters we know and love colliding and remixing into something new. We’re currently seeing a bit of that with the ‘Loki’ series, and it looks to continue in both ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’.

The new animated series features Jeffrey Wright (‘Westworld’, ‘The Batman’) as the Watcher, who narrates our way through the anthology as it introduces various alt-MCU-history scenarios, taking major moments from the franchise, but playing them out in a different way.

‘What If…?’ will see many of the MCU cast lending their voices to versions of their characters including Hayley Atwell, Chadwick Boseman, Josh Brolin, Dominic Cooper, David Dastmalchian, Michael Douglas, Karen Gillan, Jeff Goldblum, Frank Grillo, Sean Gunn, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Djimon Hounsou , Samuel L. Jackson, Toby Jones, Michael B. Jordan, Neal McDonough, Natalie Portman, Jeremy Renner, Michael Rooker, Paul Rudd, Mark Ruffalo, Sebastian Stan, Chris Sullivan, Stanley Tucci and Taika Waititi.

The new series, directed by Bryan Andrews with AC Bradley as head writer, features signature MCU action with a curious twist, and is Marvel Studios’ first-ever animated series.

Marvel’s ‘What If…?‘ premieres Wednesday, 11th August 2021 on Disney+ worldwide.
